POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Competition Eliminator at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 41st annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed this round, amount over/under index this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time, speed & over/under Index, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Scott McClay Runs 7.529/174.84/-0.411, Now #32; C/ED Index: 7.94, Prior Best: 7.514/175.73/-0.426, Was #31
Right Lane: Tom Brown Runs 8.504/152.40/-0.476, Now #28; F/ED Index: 8.98, Prior Best: 8.745/146.30/-0.235, Was #34

10:16 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 61 degrees, relative humidity 48 percent, barometer 29.44 inches, adjusted altitude 886 feet, track temperature 76 degrees.

Jake Crimmins is on the bump spot at -0.413.

Brown bumps into the field, putting Scott McClay on the bump spot at -0.426.

Ebbert's dragster made several hard moves out toward the wall, but he stayed with it to bump into the field. Nice run by Wilson, looks like the cars like these conditions - there's a light cloud cover that is shading the track, keeping temperatures on the cool side. Eddie Smith is on the bump spot at -0.429.

Gillette failed to improve and inherits the bump spot when Smith steps up.

Ellis had a busted run yesterday - this one was much better. Freese also stepped up nicely. David Ebbert is on the bump spot at -0.445.

Sumek slowed almost immediately. Barcelon made his second good run of the weekend, just a few thousandths slower than yesterday.

Kaplan nailed this one, the altered smoothly down the groove. So did Smith, with similar results.

Both drivers bumped in, Smithfield going way up to the top half. Now John Mihovetz is on the bump spot at -0.479.

Deceglie shook hard and slowed almost immediately. Huggins made a good run, no improvement.

Jones shook and slowed immediately. Lambeck appeared to run it all the way through, lost four hundredths somewhere along the way.

Both cars made big moves toward the centerline on the launch, neither driver lifted. Cowan took over the bump spot, the field now just one car from being all -.500 or better.

Taylor jumped up to the second spot on a string-straight pass. Justice improved two tenths, stayed 38th.

There are 350 cubic inches on the line here - combined! Ackerman slowed on the top end after running 134 mph at half track. Very nice run by Zane to move to the #2 spot.

Mihovetz was bumped earlier this round and the car is capable of running much quicker than it did yesterday. Yup, the car hooked cleanly and went right down the groove to the #1 spot to close the round. With one round of qualifying left, Lucky Snyder is on the bump spot at -0.501.
