Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Session #1

JOLIET, Ill. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Fifth annual Ameriquest Mortgage Route 66 NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Edwin Schmeeckle Runs 6.811/139.99, Now #1
Right Lane: Jeff Hamelink Runs 10.115/80.57, Now #2

Hamelink was loose right off the starting line and out of the groove. Schmeeckle with a big bang just past half track.

Left Lane: John Finke Runs 5.368/253.99, Now #2
Right Lane: Ken Perry Runs 5.355/264.55, Now #1

Finke with a career best E.T. pass here and Perry with his fastest pass of his life and he goes to the number one spot.

Left Lane: Timothy Bowgren Runs 5.504/261.67, Now #3
Right Lane: Guy Kelly Runs 5.535/257.43, Now #4

Bowgren with his career best E.T.. Kelly with a good looking pass.

Left Lane: Brandon Johnson Runs 5.401/264.03, Now #3
Right Lane: Scott Murray Runs 5.654/236.38, Now #6

A couple good passes here.

Left Lane: Robin Samsel Runs 5.851/254.71, Now #7
Right Lane: Todd Datweiler Runs 13.217/84.66, Now #10

Datweiler was up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle.

Left Lane: Jared Dreher Runs 5.608/246.39, Now #7
Right Lane: Rich McPhillips Runs 5.589/261.22, Now #6

Dreher with problems on the top end and the Safety Safari is rolling.

Left Lane: Robert Perkins Runs 6.177/176.93, Now #10
Right Lane: Steve Federlin No Time, Now #14

Federlin isn't running the National event here this weekend, but this also counts for All Star qualifying. Federlin ran a 5.421 seconds at 260.81 mph. Perkins with a bang on the top end and the Safety Safari rolls for the clean up.

Left Lane: Randy Bayne No Time, Now #16
Right Lane: Bill Reichert Runs 5.267/278.81, Now #1

Bayne left before the tree was activated and will not get a time slip. Reichert with a great pass. The second fastest pass in the history of the category. Bill Reichert's incremental times: 60ft-0.967 sec., 330ft-2.429, 660ft-3.536/225.82mph, 1,000ft-4.466

Left Lane: Richard Putz Runs 5.415/261.57, Now #5
Right Lane: Ashley Force Runs 5.819/259.11, Now #11

Putz with a great looking pass while Force never got it hitting on all the cylinders.

Left Lane: Marty Thacker Runs 5.441/262.03, Now #7
Right Lane: Jeff Wilson Runs 5.394/267.64, Now #4

Thacker with a nice pass, Wilson with a great pass and a career fastest pass.

Left Lane: Arthur Gallant Runs 24.464/35.88, Now #20
Right Lane: Randy Meyer Runs 5.240/264.34, Now #1

Gallant is up in smoke as soon as he hits the throttle. Meyer with a career best E.T. to go to the number one spot.

Left Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 16.756/45.20, Now #21
Right Lane: Jeff Bohr Runs 8.165/117.36, Now #18

Torrence was up in smoke as soon as he hits the throttle. Bohr lost traction a little further down the track.

Left Lane: Gene Snow Runs 5.261/260.61, Now #2
Right Lane: Dave Hirata Runs 14.098/80.95, Now #22

Hirata was up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle. Snow with a real nice pass a career best E.T.

Left Lane: Aaron Olivarez Runs 20.473/63.00, Now #24

Olivarez was up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle.
