CLERMONT, Ind. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 51st annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Tony Rizzo Runs 7.046/200.74, Now #30; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Larry Peternel Runs 8.873/105.46, Now #32; Best prior run: 14.471/57.92, Was #33

1:34 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 74 degrees, relative humidity 37 percent, barometer 29.77 inches, adjusted altitude 1,355 feet, track temperature 118 degrees.

It's pretty nice outside, but that 118 degrees track temp is not a good thing for these competitors. Peternel shook and slowed early in the run. Allen Johnson is on the bump spot at 6.778, by the way.

Right Lane: Kevin Lawrence Runs 6.829/201.97, Now #25; Best prior run: 13.769/61.57, Was #34

Lawrence got down the track cleanly this time out and improved a tenth.

Left Lane: Pat Herold No Time, Now #30; Best prior run: 6.978/199.02, Was #29
Right Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.876/202.61, Now #28; Best prior run: 12.010/72.57, Was #34

Herold broke and was pushed over to the return road.

Left Lane: Mike Trumble Jr Runs 6.882/201.34, Now #27; Best prior run: 6.862/201.19, Was #27
Right Lane: John Mahoney Runs 6.930/198.93, Now #29; Best prior run: 7.009/198.29, Was #31

Mahoney got into the sixes this time out.

Nice launch by Watson, a 0.997 60-foot time, but he ran out of steam on the top end..

Right Lane: Barry Grant Runs 6.838/201.13, Now #26; Best prior run: 6.852/200.53, Was #26

Small improvements, no real help.

Nice run by C onnolly to bump into the field. Now Kenny Koretsky is on the bump spot at 6.778.

Right Lane: Bob Benza Runs 6.828/202.76, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.783/203.61, Was #19

Koretsky had a nice 0.997 60-foot time, but could not bump back into the field.

Left Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.783/203.09, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.760/203.68, Was #13
Right Lane: Erica Enders Runs 6.768/203.61, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.780/203.49, Was #18

Yates' car is a new GTO, by the way, missed that last night. Both cars posted 0.997 short times and Enders improved, bumping Koretsky.

Left Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.771/203.83, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.756/203.98, Was #11
Right Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 17.839/41.42, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.778/202.82, Was #18

AJ was on the bump when the round started. Dave Connolly was now on the bump spot at 6.769. Johnson's car made a hard move toward the wall on the launch and he had to lift.

Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.801/202.73, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.752/203.71, Was #8
Right Lane: Bruce Allen Runs 6.787/202.52, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.767/203.19, Was #14

Jeg's car made a move toward the centerline on the launch and he lost some time getting it back to the groove.

Left Lane: Dave Howard Runs 6.794/203.12, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.751/203.86, Was #7
Right Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.753/204.70, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.759/205.04, Was #12

WJ's car made a small bobble on the launch last night. He ran the third-fastest run of the round, but ended up twelfth on the elapsed time list. This time he made a nice, straight launch, posted a 0.997 60-foot time, and moved up three spots on the ladder in a round where most are losing a couple hundredths or more.

Right Lane: Mark Pawuk Runs 6.777/203.89, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.755/203.98, Was #11

Left Lane: Rickie Smith Runs 6.765/203.74, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.739/204.54, Was #4
Right Lane: Richie Stevens Runs 6.801/203.03, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.754/203.95, Was #10

Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.769/203.58, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.737/203.92, Was #3
Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.756/203.55, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.743/204.11, Was #6

So far, only Enders, Connolly and WJ have improved this round. Morgan came close to Johnson's round-quick 6.753, but could not beat it.

Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.744/205.22, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.728/205.35, Was #2
Right Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.706/204.91, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.714/205.13, Was #1

Last pair. Both beat WJ's time, but Anderson crushed the whole field, setting a track ET record in a round where almst all others lost ground.

After two rounds, it's Anderson on the top and Dave Connolly is on the bump spot at 6.769.
