POMONA, Calif. -- Injured race driver John Lingenfelter continues to make remarkable progress recovering from injuries sustained in a racing accident Oct. 27 at the Mazda NHRA Sport Compact Finals presented by Toyo Tires at Pomona Raceway. He remains hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit at Pomona Valley Hospital.

"John's doing really well, better every day," said his wife, Cindy Nov. 9. "People who haven't been by to see him in a couple of days are amazed at his progress."

Doctors are weaning Lingenfelter off the respirator that is helping him breathe.

"We hope to have him fully off of the respirator in the next couple of days, and once that is done, we'll be able to fly him home to Indiana to begin rehabilitation," said his wife. "We can see the light at the end of the tunnel. He still has a ways to go, but we're thankful he's with us."
