Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #3

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series, Inaugural NHRA Nationals at The Rock listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Right Lane: Dave Richards Runs 3.945/329.43, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.073/254.81, Was #10

Weather conditions: air temperature 74 degrees, relative humidity 40 percent, barometer 29.97 inches, adjusted altitude 1,774 feet, track temperature 104 degrees.

Richards kept it hooked up and hitting on all eight to move into the top half of the show.

Left Lane: Spencer Hyde Runs 4.035/306.12, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.455/192.88, Was #13
Right Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 3.892/334.82, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.233/221.35, Was #12

Hyde with a cylinder out early and then appeared to burn up a head gasket on the top end.

DeJoria launched hard and kept it hooked up to go to the number two spot.

Left Lane: Daniel Wilkerson Runs 13.295/68.10, Now #11; Best prior run: 3.982/325.85, Was #11
Right Lane: Jon Capps Runs 5.674/110.78, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.098/294.89, Was #13

Wilkerson is up in smoke right at the hit.

Capps' chute comes out right off the starting line.

Left Lane: John Smith Runs 4.205/251.68, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.899/160.31, Was #15
Right Lane: Paul Lee Runs 3.934/325.14, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.934/322.35, Was #6

Smith's car was dancing around and then he clicked it off early. He still moves up the ladder one spot.

Lee is straight down the groove and matches his quickest pass this weekend.

Left Lane: Jordan Vandergriff Runs 4.629/175.10, Now #15; Best prior run: 4.654/183.15, Was #15
Right Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 3.916/334.57, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.937/331.61, Was #8

Vandergriff started to lose traction around half track and clicked it off.

Todd kept it hooked up and hitting on all eight to move into the top half of the show.

Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.943/155.60, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.948/318.92, Was #10
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 3.970/327.99, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.935/330.88, Was #8

Pedregon drives into tire smoke and clicks it off.

Hagan with another good looking pass, straight down the groove. He will not improve.

Left Lane: Austin Prock Runs 4.315/206.90, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.893/326.80, Was #3
Right Lane: Chad Green Runs 4.450/193.38, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.920/327.27, Was #6

Prock starts to haze the tires and clicks it off.

Green starts to haze the tires on the top end and clicks it off.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 3.960/326.56, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.870/330.40, Was #1
Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.559/183.00, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.911/329.43, Was #4

Capps kept it hooked up and hitting on all eight with a good clean pass.

Beckman starts to lose traction around half track and clicked it off.
