Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #2

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series, 25th annual Dodge NHRA Nevada Nationals powered by Direct Connection listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Chris Morel Runs 7.890/82.80, Now #20; No Prior Run

4:01 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 82 degrees, relative humidity 14 percent, barometer 29.89 inches, adjusted altitude 4,030 feet.

Morel had problems on the burnout on his first attempt and did not make a pass. He leaves the line, the engine doesn't sound right, and he is off of the throttle about 300 feet out.

Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 3.937/330.47, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.620/178.31, Was #16
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 3.919/329.91, Now #1; Best prior run: 9.012/78.20, Was #21

Beckman goes down the groove with a good pass and he moves up to to third spot for now. Capps was all over the track, first to the left, then back to the right, then back again. He stays on the throttle and moves up to the top spot for now.

Jack Beckman's incremental times: 60ft-0.867 sec., 330ft-2.264, 660ft-3.195/279.15 mph.

Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.882 sec., 330ft-2.260, 660ft-3.180/282.60 mph.

Left Lane: Dave Richards Runs 6.830/97.26, Now #18; Best prior run: 4.541/193.40, Was #17
Right Lane: Chad Green Runs 3.974/321.42, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.723/124.01, Was #20

Richards had traction problems at the hit, gets about 200 feet out and backs off of the throttle. Green went down the groove with a good pass and he moves up to the seventh spot for now.

Left Lane: Tim Gibbons Runs 4.862/163.49, Now #15; Best prior run: 4.140/271.46, Was #15

Gibbons was skating around early in the run and he backs off of the throttle about 400 feet out.

Left Lane: Daniel Wilkerson Runs 3.919/329.02, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.132/261.12, Was #14

Wilkerson goes straight down the groove with a good run. he equals Capps ET but Capps stays in the top spot with the faster speed.

Daniel Wilkerson's incremental times: 60ft-0.883 sec., 330ft-2.269, 660ft-3.180/283.13 mph.

Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.014/314.02, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.051/306.88, Was #14

Pedregon keeps the candles lit all the way through the run and improves on his first attempt to move up to the 12th spot for now.

Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.897 sec., 330ft-2.305, 660ft-3.252/272.83 mph.

Left Lane: Jason Rupert Runs 4.025/312.21, Now #15; Best prior run: 4.037/313.00, Was #14
Right Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 3.930/329.10, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.205/228.46, Was #16

Rupert made a move to the right at the hit but he gets back in the groove and improves on his first attempt. Todd goes down the groove with a good pass and gets off of the bump and all the way up to the fourth spot.

J.R. Todd's incremental times: 60ft-0.885 sec., 330ft-2.258, 660ft-3.188/279.90 mph.

Left Lane: Blake Alexander Runs 3.990/314.90, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.015/321.81, Was #14
Right Lane: Paul Lee Runs 3.950/327.66, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.006/324.83, Was #12

Alexander makes his quickest pass of the day and he moves up to the 11th spot for now. Lee goes down the groove with a good pass and he moves up to the seventh spot.

Blake Alexander's incremental times: 60ft-0.875 sec., 330ft-2.277, 660ft-3.219/271.24 mph.

Paul Lee's incremental times: 60ft-0.882 sec., 330ft-2.271, 660ft-3.206/279.50 mph.

Left Lane: Spencer Hyde Runs 3.917/324.75, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.993/304.67, Was #12
Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 3.980/300.13, Now #12; Best prior run: 3.996/297.68, Was #13

A good side-by-side, both down the groove with full passes. Hyde makes the quickest pass of the day so far and moves into the top spot for now. Worsham improves and moves up a spot in the order to 12th.

Spencer Hyde's incremental times: 60ft-0.881 sec., 330ft-2.253, 660ft-3.169/280.78 mph.

Del Worsham's incremental times: 60ft-0.890 sec., 330ft-2.282, 660ft-3.213/279.85 mph.

Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 6.667/97.14, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.962/330.15, Was #10
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 3.897/329.75, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.951/322.42, Was #9

Tasca gets about 200 feet out, strikes the tires and backs off of the throttle. Hagan goes down the roove with the quickest pass of the day so far and takes over the top spot for now.

Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.883 sec., 330ft-2.258, 660ft-3.162/286.50 mph.

Left Lane: Austin Prock Runs 3.895/334.48, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.925/332.43, Was #5
Right Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 3.938/328.78, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.948/330.96, Was #8

Prock goes down the groove with the quickest pass of the day and he takes the Ted Wiens Trick or Traction bonus of $3500 and picks up three bonus points.

DeJoria moves to the right but she hangs on and makes a good pass.

Austin Prock's incremental times: 60ft-0.881 sec., 330ft-2.260, 660ft-3.167/285.53 mph.

Alexis DeJoria's incremental times: 60ft-0.890 sec., 330ft-2.279, 660ft-3.197/282.54 mph.
