Top Alcohol Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #1

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series, 25th annual Dodge NHRA Nevada Nationals powered by Direct Connection listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Robert Kanenwisher Runs 5.958/241.20, Now #2
Right Lane: Kirk Kuhns Runs 5.777/241.58, Now #1

10:24 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 70 degrees, relative humidity 23 percent, barometer 29.96 inches, adjusted altitude 3,243 feet.

This is Kuhn's second race this season. His last race was the first race at Pomona.

This is Kanenwisher's first race since this race last year.

Kuhns goes down the groove with a clean pass to start the session. Kanenwisher makes a full pass but will probably need to improve.

Left Lane: Steve Macklyn Runs 5.599/254.52, Now #1
Right Lane: Stan Sipos Runs 5.633/259.96, Now #2

A good side-by-side, both down the groove with good runs. Macklyn takes the early pole, Sipos right behind in second.

Left Lane: Steve Gasparrelli No Time, Now #6
Right Lane: Bret Williamson Runs 10.915/109.48, Now #5

Gasparrelli has problems and doesn't make a pass. Williamson has traction problems at the hit.

Left Lane: Ray Martin Runs 5.637/258.71, Now #4
Right Lane: Christine Foster Runs 5.551/262.64, Now #1

Foster goes down the groove with the quickest pass of the round so far to take the top spot for now. Martin makes a clean pass and gets in the fourth spot for now.

Left Lane: Chris Foster Runs 12.295/72.74, Now #9
Right Lane: Shane Westerfield Runs 5.504/264.29, Now #1

Foster rattles the tires off of the line, gets about 200 feet out and the chutes deploy. Westerfield goes down the groove with a good run to take the top spot for now.

Shane Westerfield's incremental times: 60ft-0.945 sec., 330ft-2.465, 660ft-3.648/209.33 mph, 1,000ft-4.653.

Left Lane: Jim Whiteley Runs 5.481/262.33, Now #1
Right Lane: Bob McCosh Runs 5.525/264.60, Now #3

Whiteley goes down the groove with the quickest pass of the round so far to take the top spot for now. mcCosh makes a decent pass and gets in the third spot for now.

Jim Whiteley's incremental times: 60ft-0.939 sec., 330ft-2.435, 660ft-3.613/209.88 mph, 1,000ft-4.622.

Bob McCosh's incremental times: 60ft-0.971 sec., 330ft-2.488, 660ft-3.669/209.62 mph, 1,000ft-4.674.

Left Lane: Madison Gordon Runs 5.512/265.12, Now #3
Right Lane: Annie Whiteley Runs 5.532/264.13, Now #5

A good side-by-side, both down the groove with good runs. Gordon gets in the third spot for now, Whiteley in fifth.

Annie Whiteley's incremental times: 60ft-0.953 sec., 330ft-2.495, 660ft-3.679/209.23 mph, 1,000ft-4.682.

Left Lane: Brian Hough Runs 5.602/263.26, Now #9
Right Lane: Sean Bellemeur Runs 5.456/265.74, Now #1

Bellemeur goes down the groove with an impressive run to take the top spot. Hough makes a clean pass but was falling behind all the way through the run.

Sean Bellemeur's incremental times: 60ft-0.938 sec., 330ft-2.443, 660ft-3.613/211.63 mph, 1,000ft-4.610.
