Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #3

ENNIS, Texas - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series, 40th annual Texas NHRA FallNationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Right Lane: Dave Richards Runs 6.635/95.60, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.073/311.81, Was #14

12:46 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 82 degrees, relative humidity 43 percent, barometer 30.01 inches, adjusted altitude 2,457 feet, track temperature 117 degrees.

Richards was hazing the tires at the hit. The car headed for the centerline, he gets about 150 feet out and backed off of the throttle.

Left Lane: Alex Laughlin Runs 4.959/157.47, Now #15; Best prior run: 4.073/273.71, Was #15
Right Lane: Blake Alexander Runs 6.385/102.71, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.282/215.69, Was #17

Alexander gets about 300 feet out, strikes the tires and gives up on the run. Laughlin gets a few more feet, loses traction and backs off of the throttle.

Left Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 5.791/123.98, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.044/304.84, Was #13
Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 6.073/109.83, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.932/332.08, Was #8

Haddock gets about 300 feet out and loses traction. Same story for Tasca, losing traction early and giving up on the run.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.565/184.87, Now #12; Best prior run: 3.970/325.36, Was #12
Right Lane: Chris King No Time, Now #16; Best prior run: 4.157/244.27, Was #16

King left before the tree was activated and starts rattling the tires. He heads for the wall, gets about 150 feet out and backs off of the throttle. Hagan gets about 400 feet out, strikes the tires and gives up on the run.

Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 4.018/321.50, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.954/323.37, Was #10
Right Lane: Daniel Wilkerson Runs 4.032/318.90, Now #11; Best prior run: 3.969/291.85, Was #11

Todd goes down the groove with a clean pass, the quickest of the round so far, but he doesn't improve. Wilkerson makes a decent pass for the conditions but doesn't improve.

Left Lane: Spencer Hyde Runs 4.098/288.07, Now #9; Best prior run: 3.945/299.28, Was #9
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.100/291.70, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.929/327.75, Was #7

Hyde was on a decent pass but he lost a cylinder or two about 600 feet out. Pedregon lost a cylinder late in the run, pushed toward the wall, and he had to back off of the throttle.

Left Lane: Paul Lee Runs 5.650/123.11, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.915/321.68, Was #5
Right Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 5.942/122.37, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.918/329.38, Was #6

Synchronized tire smoke, both get about 300 feet out and go up in smoke.

Left Lane: Chad Green Runs 4.382/207.63, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.901/331.17, Was #4
Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.021/309.83, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.892/330.83, Was #3

Green was on a decent pass but lost traction about 600 feet out and had to give up on the run. beckman went down the groove with a full pass but he didn't improve.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 5.119/147.86, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.889/334.55, Was #2
Right Lane: Austin Prock Runs 3.998/326.44, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.876/336.07, Was #1

Capps gets about 400 feet out and goes up in smoke. Prock goes down the groove with the quickest pass of the round but he doesn't improve.
