Top Alcohol Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Final Session

ENNIS, Texas - Notes from final, round 3 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series, 40th annual Texas NHRA FallNationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Chris Foster Runs 5.542/266.21, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.563/229.03, Was #9
Right Lane: Jim Whiteley Runs 5.571/263.95, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.452/265.52, Was #3

3:10 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 84 degrees, relative humidity 41 percent, barometer 30.12 inches, adjusted altitude 2,495 feet.

Foster goes down the groove with his quickest pass of the weekend but stays in the ninth spot.

Whiteley slows from his earlier run and stays in the third spot.

Left Lane: Bob McCosh Runs 5.529/266.30, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.474/267.89, Was #5
Right Lane: Phil Esz Runs 5.567/262.87, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.520/263.42, Was #8

McCosh makes a clean pass but doesn't improve.

Esz makes a decent pass but doesn't improve.

Left Lane: Sean Bellemeur Runs 7.595/163.51, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.412/270.87, Was #2
Right Lane: Christine Foster Runs 6.311/135.72, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.795/254.83, Was #11

Bellemeur has traction problems and is off of the throttle early.

Foster bangs the blower about 700 feet out.

Left Lane: Brian Hough Runs 5.530/264.88, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.474/265.13, Was #6
Right Lane: Madison Gordon Runs 8.884/100.37, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.506/268.74, Was #7

Hough makes another good run but doesn't improve.

Gordon rattles the tires, makes a move to the right and backs off of the throttle.

Right Lane: Chip Beverett Runs 8.190/108.80, Now #12; Best prior run: 8.796/96.31, Was #12

Beverett has traction problems early in the run.

Right Lane: Mark Billington Runs 5.563/264.26, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.572/262.22, Was #10

Billington improves a little but not enough to move up in the order.

Left Lane: Stan Sipos Runs 6.507/245.10, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.398/271.62, Was #1
Right Lane: Shane Westerfield Runs 5.482/266.11, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.455/267.51, Was #4

Sipos has traction problems at the hit, pedals,then stays on the throttle the rest of the run.

Westerfield makes an impressive pass for the conditions.
