Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Final Session

LAS VEGAS - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series, 24th annual Ford Performance NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Tim Gibbons Runs 12.076/65.98, Now #15; Best prior run: 4.021/291.51, Was #15
Right Lane: Chris Morel Runs 4.169/262.39, Now #18; Best prior run: 5.758/125.78, Was #20

6:19 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 62 degrees, relative humidity 37 percent, barometer 29.73 inches, adjusted altitude 3,009 feet, track temperature 80 degrees.

Gibbons goes up in smoke at the hit and gives up on the run quickly. Morel was on a decent pass but the flames went out about 800 feet out. he still makes his quickest pass of the weekend but it isn't enough to get in the show.

Left Lane: Steven Densham Runs 4.001/312.06, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.017/291.19, Was #14

Densham started moving to the right, he steers it back to the groove and goes on through with his quickest pass of the weekend and he moves up a spot in the order.

Steven Densham's incremental times: 60ft-0.880 sec., 330ft-2.278, 660ft-3.226/269.56 mph.

Left Lane: Jeff Diehl Runs 13.811/72.05, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.014/313.00, Was #14
Right Lane: Buddy Hull Runs 4.090/311.27, Now #18; Best prior run: 4.207/275.34, Was #19

Diehl hit the throttle and went up in smoke instantly. Hull drifted a little to the left early but stayed on the throttle to make his quickest pass of the weekend...but it wasn't enough to get him in the qualified field.

Left Lane: Dave Richards Runs 3.966/317.42, Now #11; Best prior run: 3.970/317.27, Was #11
Right Lane: Chad Green Runs 5.553/127.41, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.052/312.64, Was #17

Richards goes down the groove with his quickest pass of the weekend and he will stay in the 11th spot. Green has problems and is off of the throttle very early in the run.

Left Lane: Daniel Wilkerson Runs 10.061/89.49, Now #11; Best prior run: 3.924/326.40, Was #10
Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 3.857/325.37, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.022/312.28, Was #16

Wilkerson goes up in smoke at the hit and is off of the throttle quickly. Tasca finally makes a good pass, right down the groove, header flames high and steady all the way through the run, and he moves all the way to the second spot.

Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.871 sec., 330ft-2.224, 660ft-3.122/287.41 mph.

Left Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 3.918/330.96, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.922/296.31, Was #10
Right Lane: Jason Rupert Runs 3.953/317.42, Now #12; Best prior run: 3.996/318.62, Was #13

DeJoria drifted a little to the right during the run but she stays on the throttle and makes her quickest pass of the weekend. Rupert drifts to the right all the way through the run, getting a little close to the wall just past the finish line, but he hangs on and makes the quickest pass of his career.

Jason Rupert's incremental times: 60ft-0.894 sec., 330ft-2.268, 660ft-3.193/275.79 mph.

Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 3.902/325.77, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.898/327.82, Was #7
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 7.936/93.16, Now #9; Best prior run: 3.904/321.04, Was #9

Todd makes another good run but he doesn't improve. Pedregon loses traction at the hit, the car makes a little move to the left, then he gives up on the run.

Left Lane: Paul Lee Runs 3.845/327.35, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.863/324.44, Was #5
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 3.859/325.14, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.899/331.61, Was #8

Lee goes down the groove with an impressive pass, a career best ET, and he moves up to the second spot in the order. Hagan makes a clean, straight pass, his quickest of the weekend, and he moves up to the fifth spot.

Paul Lee's incremental times: 60ft-0.864 sec., 330ft-2.209, 660ft-3.109/284.99 mph.

Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.863 sec., 330ft-2.225, 660ft-3.121/286.44 mph.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 7.470/90.88, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.860/330.96, Was #6
Right Lane: Blake Alexander Runs 3.848/328.94, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.887/322.42, Was #7

Capps gets about 200 feet out and strikes the tires. He backs off of the throttle, the rear of the car swings back and forth, and he coasts through the lights. Alexander goes down the groove with his quickest pass of the weekend and he moves up to the third spot.

Blake Alexander's incremental times: 60ft-0.873 sec., 330ft-2.228, 660ft-3.116/289.38 mph.

Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 3.821/330.47, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.859/332.43, Was #5
Right Lane: Austin Prock Runs 3.845/327.27, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.817/327.98, Was #1

A good drag race, both down the groove with clean, straight passes. Beckman makes his quickest pass of his career and he moves up to the second spot. Prock makes a clean run but slows from his earlier attempt.

Jack Beckman's incremental times: 60ft-0.862 sec., 330ft-2.209, 660ft-3.093/289.14 mph.

Austin Prock's incremental times: 60ft-0.864 sec., 330ft-2.221, 660ft-3.110/286.86 mph.
