Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #2

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series, 24th annual Ford Performance NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: John Hale Runs 8.014/90.64, Now #19; No Prior Run

4:15 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 69 degrees, relative humidity 22 percent, barometer 29.84 inches, adjusted altitude 3,262 feet.

Hale hits the throttle and has a cylinder out. He gets about 200 feet out and clicks it off.

Right Lane: Tim Gibbons Runs 4.780/170.95, Now #15; Best prior run: 4.245/238.85, Was #15

Gibbons leaves the line and the rear of the car starts moving around. He drifted a little to the left, lost a cylinder, then clicked it off about 500 feet out.

Left Lane: Chad Green Runs 9.436/55.35, Now #20; Best prior run: 8.446/82.58, Was #20
Right Lane: Jeff Diehl Runs 4.039/273.61, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.049/289.45, Was #12

Green gets about 200 feet out and backs off of the throttle. Diehl was on a decent pass but started moving to the left. He loses a cylinder late in the run and clicked it off about 900 feet out.

Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.033/253.37, Now #12; Best prior run: 7.523/87.53, Was #18
Right Lane: Steven Densham Runs 4.022/287.05, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.017/291.19, Was #11

Tasca gets about 500 feet out, pushed out a head gasket, then the car nosed over. Densham makes a clean, straight pass but he doesn't improve.

Left Lane: Blake Alexander Runs 3.887/322.42, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.977/117.05, Was #18
Right Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 3.922/296.31, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.995/282.42, Was #9

Alexander goes down the groove with his quickest pass of the day and he moves up to the fifth spot. DeJoria starts drifting left early in the run. She gets about 900 feet out, backs off of the throttle and just misses the timing block at the end of the track. She improves and moves up to the eighth spot for now.

Left Lane: Chris Morel Runs 7.671/80.74, Now #18; Best prior run: 5.758/125.78, Was #18
Right Lane: Dave Richards Runs 3.992/317.05, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.970/317.27, Was #10

Morel rattles the tires early, gets about 200 feet out and the car noses over. Richards was moving around all the way through the run but held on and made a decent pass.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 3.899/331.61, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.209/218.51, Was #16
Right Lane: Daniel Wilkerson Runs 7.328/89.77, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.936/321.73, Was #9

Hagan goes down the groove with a good pass and he moves all the way to the seventh spot. Wilkerson hit the throttle, gets about 300 feet out and has traction problems.

Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.869 sec., 330ft-2.244, 660ft-3.164/282.78 mph.

Left Lane: Buddy Hull Runs 13.082/67.99, Now #16; Best prior run: 4.207/275.34, Was #16
Right Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 3.928/325.77, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.898/327.82, Was #6

Hull hits the throttle and goes up in smoke. Todd started drifting to the left early, gets close to the centerline, but hangs on and makes a decent pass.

Left Lane: Jason Rupert Runs 6.343/104.05, Now #12; Best prior run: 3.996/318.62, Was #12
Right Lane: Paul Lee Runs 3.866/322.04, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.879/333.49, Was #4

Rupert gets about 200 feet out, strikes the tires, then clicks it off. lee goes down the groove with a career best run and he stays in the fourth spot.

Paul Lee's incremental times: 60ft-0.874 sec., 330ft-2.226, 660ft-3.127/284.99 mph.

Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 3.991/316.75, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.904/321.04, Was #8
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.069/276.86, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.860/330.96, Was #3

Pedregon had a cylinder out early in the run and he slows from his earlier attempt. Capps has problems late in the run and was out of power early.

Left Lane: Austin Prock Runs 6.314/105.36, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.843/333.33, Was #1
Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 7.323/93.38, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.859/332.43, Was #2

Prock gets about 200 feet out and strikes the tires. he pedals once and gives up on the run. Beckman gets about 200 feet out, loses traction and gives up on the run.
