Top Alcohol Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #1

ENNIS, Texas - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series, 39th annual Texas NHRA FallNationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Not on File No Time, Now #2
Right Lane: Mark Billington Runs 5.619/260.67, Now #1

Weather conditions: air temperature 89 degrees, relative humidity 33 percent, barometer 30.02 inches, adjusted altitude 2,888 feet.

Billington started drifting out of the groove and over by the centerline, he stayed with it.

Left Lane: Jim Whiteley Runs 5.547/258.80, Now #2
Right Lane: Mick Steele Runs 5.461/263.47, Now #1

Whiteley is straight down the groove with a nice pass. Jim Whiteley's incremental times: 60ft-0.940 sec., 330ft-2.454, 660ft-3.649/206.73 mph, 1,000ft-4.677.

Steele launched and kept it hooked up with a great pass. Mick Steele's incremental times: 60ft-0.973 sec., 330ft-2.475, 660ft-3.626/216.45 mph, 1,000ft-4.614. His quickest this season.

Left Lane: Hunter Jones Runs 5.584/262.47, Now #3
Right Lane: Matt Gill Runs 7.077/161.52, Now #5

Jones is straight down the groove with a good pass.

Gill started to lose traction and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Shane Westerfield Runs 5.545/266.82, Now #2
Right Lane: Christine Foster Runs 5.640/259.41, Now #6

Westerfield kept it hooked up and hitting on all eight to go to the number two spot. Shane Westerfield's incremental times: 60ft-0.978 sec., 330ft-2.514, 660ft-3.694/210.54 mph, 1,000ft-4.698.

Foster with a good clean pass.

Left Lane: Ray Martin Runs 6.986/186.61, Now #7
Right Lane: Kyle Smith Runs 10.808/85.15, Now #9

Martin is up in smoke right at the hit and pedals it.

Smith is up in smoke and clicks it off early.

Left Lane: Chip Beverett Runs 7.509/120.96, Now #10
Right Lane: Chris Foster Runs 5.540/265.49, Now #2

Beverett started to lose traction and clicked it off.

Foster kept it hooked up and hitting on all eight to go to the number two spot. Chris Foster's incremental times: 60ft-0.965 sec., 330ft-2.497, 660ft-3.681/209.61 mph, 1,000ft-4.690.

Left Lane: Phil Esz Runs 5.532/262.65, Now #3
Right Lane: Brian Hough Runs 5.500/265.19, Now #2

This was a good side-by-side drag race.

Esz is straight down the groove to the number three spot.

Hough launched hard and kept it hooked up to go to the number two spot. Brian Hough's incremental times: 60ft-0.943 sec., 330ft-2.472, 660ft-3.649/211.27 mph, 1,000ft-4.650.

Left Lane: Annie Whiteley Runs 5.490/268.18, Now #2
Right Lane: Not on File No Time, Now #15

Whiteley launched hard and kept it hooked up to go to the number two spot. Annie Whiteley's incremental times: 60ft-0.956 sec., 330ft-2.481, 660ft-3.651/211.94 mph, 1,000ft-4.648.

Left Lane: Madison Gordon Runs 5.503/267.51, Now #4
Right Lane: Sean Bellemeur Runs 9.472/92.48, Now #15

Gordon kept it hooked up and goes to the number four spot. Madison Gordon's incremental times: 60ft-0.962 sec., 330ft-2.479, 660ft-3.652/211.56 mph, 1,000ft-4.657.

Bellemeur with severe tire shake right a the hit and clicks it off.
