Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Session #1

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series, 64th annual NHRA Winternationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Right Lane: Baruc Llamas Runs 5.351/270.37, Now #1

Weather conditions: air temperature 67 degrees, relative humidity 54 percent, barometer 30.06 inches, adjusted altitude 2,024 feet.

Llamas is making his National event debut, he is drive the Rich McPhillips car. He kept it hooked up and is straight down the groove. Baruc Llamas' incremental times: 60ft-0.963 sec., 330ft-2.460, 660ft-3.581/223.84 mph, 1,000ft-4.530.

Left Lane: Trevor Larkin Runs 5.459/265.38, Now #2
Right Lane: Garrett Bateman Runs 8.025/106.48, Now #3

Larkin with a good clean pass straight down the groove.

Bateman is loose early and clicks it off.

Left Lane: Mike Austin Runs 5.599/261.07, Now #4
Right Lane: Ron Anderson Runs 5.486/274.05, Now #3

Austin is straight down the groove, there is a puff of smoke as he crosse the finish line. The word from the top end is the car is clean.

anderson with a quick pedal job early and got it to hook up. Ron Anderson's incremental times: 60ft-0.951 sec., 330ft-2.497, 660ft-3.694/213.74 mph, 1,000ft-4.667.

Left Lane: Mitch Myers Runs 20.014/64.50, Now #7
Right Lane: Shaundra Blinzler Runs 5.589/235.27, Now #4

Myers is up in smoke right at the hit and clicks it off.

Blinzler started to mix up cylinders just past half track and clicked it off early. The car was bouncing around in the shut down area. Shaundra Blinzler's incremental times: 60ft-0.934 sec., 330ft-2.464, 660ft-3.668/205.35 mph, 1,000ft-4.690.

Left Lane: Mike Coughlin Runs 5.232/271.84, Now #1
Right Lane: Casey Grisel Runs 5.500/268.01, Now #5

Coughlin is driving another McPhillips car here. Coughlin launched hard and kept it hooked up to go to the number one spot. Mike Coughlin's incremental times: 60ft-0.942 sec., 330ft-2.400, 660ft-3.492/229.31 mph, 1,000ft-4.422.

Grisel with a good clean pass to start the weekend.

Left Lane: Chris Demke Runs 5.330/270.86, Now #2
Right Lane: Madison Payne Runs 5.370/274.78, Now #4

Demke starts to drift out of the groove, but stays with it all the way down the track. He goes to the number two spot. Chris Demke's incremental times: 60ft-0.943 sec., 330ft-2.403, 660ft-3.538/218.80 mph, 1,000ft-4.507.

Payne is straight down the groove to the number four spot. Madison Payne's incremental times: 60ft-0.954 sec., 330ft-2.477, 660ft-3.608/223.17 mph, 1,000ft-4.557. Payne with the top speed of the event...

Left Lane: Joey Severance Runs 5.378/260.16, Now #5
Right Lane: Shawn Cowie Runs 13.704/79.52, Now #12

Severance with a good clean pass to go to the number five spot. Joey Severance's incremental times: 60ft-0.923 sec., 330ft-2.395, 660ft-3.539/215.96 mph, 1,000ft-4.526.

Cowie is up in smoke right at the hit and clicked it off.

Left Lane: John Ahten Runs 5.503/257.73, Now #9

Ahten with a good pass.

Left Lane: Joe Maynard Runs 5.398/248.11, Now #6
Right Lane: Julie Nataas Runs 5.667/226.13, Now #13

Maynard kept it hooked with a good pass to start the weekend. Joe Maynard's incremental times: 60ft-0.953 sec., 330ft-2.446, 660ft-3.583/221.63 mph, 1,000ft-4.544.

Nataas started to get loose and pedaled it one time before clicking it off.
