Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #1

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series, 55th annual NHRA Gatornationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Austin Prock Runs 3.869/329.34, Now #1
Right Lane: Buddy Hull Runs 4.252/0.00, Now #2

3:17 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 84 degrees, relative humidity 52 percent, barometer 29.94 inches, adjusted altitude 2,354 feet, track temperature 111 degrees.

Prock and Hull are making their Funny Car debut.

Prock goes down the groove with a clean, straight pass to start this session. Hull makes a clean run but was falling behind Prock all the way down the track.

Austin Prock's incremental times: 60ft-0.864 sec., 330ft-2.225, 660ft-3.135/284.27 mph.

Left Lane: John Smith Runs 4.312/257.48, Now #4
Right Lane: Daniel Wilkerson Runs 4.051/0.00, Now #2

Smith had a cylinder out at the hit, the starts starts pushing toward the centerline, then he backs off of the throttle about 800 feet out.

Tim Wilkerson is not driving so Daniel took over his seat. He makes a decent pass here and gets in the second spot for now.

Left Lane: Dave Richards No Time, Now #6
Right Lane: Paul Lee Runs 4.206/0.00, Now #3

Richards does his burnout, can't back the car up, then continues down the track. Lee makes a decent pass and gets in the third spot for now.

Still no speed in the right lane but they are working on it between runs.

Left Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 4.065/295.59, Now #4
Right Lane: Blake Alexander Runs 3.977/317.94, Now #2

Haddock was moving around all the way through the run but he stays with it and gets in the field in the fourth spot for now. Alexander goes down the groove with a decent pass to get in the second spot for now.

Left Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 3.953/328.86, Now #3
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 3.937/313.22, Now #2

A good side-by-side, both down the groove with clean, straight passes. Pedregon gets in the field in the second spot, DeJoria just behind in the third spot.

Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 4.129/239.82, Now #8
Right Lane: John Force Runs 3.966/323.12, Now #4

Todd was on a good pass but struck the tires about 600 feet out and he had to back off of the throttle. Force went down the groove with a good pass to get in the fourth spot for now.

J.R. Todd's incremental times: 60ft-0.884 sec., 330ft-2.261, 660ft-3.204/260.97 mph.

John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.884 sec., 330ft-2.290, 660ft-3.215/277.60 mph.

Left Lane: Chad Green Runs 4.055/297.88, Now #8
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 3.904/331.85, Now #2

Green makes a decent pass but was falling behind Capps all the way down the track. Capps goes down the groove with a good run and gets in the second spot for now.

Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.093 sec., 330ft-2.248, 660ft-3.169/281.07 mph.

Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 3.870/336.40, Now #2
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 3.942/326.87, Now #5

Tasca goes down the groove with a good pass, making the fastest pass of the round and second quickest to get in the second spot to end this session. hagan makes a good pass and gets in the fifth spot.

Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.875 sec., 330ft-2.238, 660ft-3.144/286.80 mph.

Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.879 sec., 330ft-2.281, 660ft-3.200/282.13 mph.
