Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Session #1

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series, 55th annual NHRA Gatornationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Right Lane: Joe Maynard Runs 5.228/271.02, Now #1

4:57 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 79 degrees, relative humidity 53 percent, barometer 29.90 inches, adjusted altitude 1,999 feet.

Maynard goes down the groove with a good looking run to start the session.

Left Lane: Phil Burkart Runs 5.914/178.45, Now #2
Right Lane: Brad McBride Runs 17.659/47.45, Now #3

Burkart was on a decent pass but had problems about 1000 feet out. mcBride rattled the tires and was off of the throttle early.

Left Lane: Sarah Allen Runs 32.924/30.38, Now #5
Right Lane: Jeff Chatterson Runs 5.351/265.53, Now #2

Allen goes up in smoke at the hit and has to give up on the run. Chatterson goes down the groove with a good pass to get in the second spot for now.

Jeff Chatterson's incremental times: 60ft-0.949 sec., 330ft-2.441, 660ft-3.562/222.84 mph, 1,000ft-4.518.

Left Lane: Angelle Sampey Runs 5.394/272.83, Now #3
Right Lane: Kirk Wolf No Time, Now #7

Sampey made a decent pass but the engine sounded like it was laboring all the way through the run. Wolf developed a leak after the burnout and did not make a pass.

Left Lane: Megan Smith Runs 5.535/272.61, Now #4
Right Lane: Jeff Veale Runs 12.081/72.03, Now #6

Smith rattled the tires at the hit and had to pedal. Veale shook the tires and clicked it off early.

Left Lane: Todd Bruce Runs 5.373/271.35, Now #4
Right Lane: James Stevens Runs 5.366/267.85, Now #3

A good side-by-side, both down the groove with clean passes. Stevens gets in the field in the third spot, Bruce in fourth, for now.

Left Lane: Karen Stalba Runs 5.385/265.38, Now #5
Right Lane: Dan Dietrich Runs 5.468/264.96, Now #7

Stalba makes a clean pass and gets in the fifth spot for now. Dietrich made a clean pass and gets in the field in the seventh spot.

Left Lane: Taylor Vetter Runs 9.741/101.06, Now #11
Right Lane: Hunter Green Runs 5.270/272.23, Now #2

Green goes down the groove with a good pass and ges in the show in the second spot for now. Vetter had problems and was off of the throttle early.

Left Lane: Mike Coughlin Runs 11.277/72.85, Now #13
Right Lane: Jackie Fricke Runs 5.283/277.72, Now #3

Coughlin has problems right off of the line and clicks it off. Fricke goes down the groove with a good pass and gets in the third spot for now.

Jackie Fricke's incremental times: 60ft-0.963 sec., 330ft-2.461, 660ft-3.559/229.35 mph, 1,000ft-4.484.

Left Lane: Matthew Cummings Runs 6.981/127.67, Now #13
Right Lane: Julie Nataas Runs 5.263/263.51, Now #2

Nataas goes down the groove with a good pass and gets in the second spot. Cummings was on a decent pass but had problems about 400 feet out and was off of the throttle.

Julie Nataas' incremental times: 60ft-0.943 sec., 330ft-2.406, 660ft-3.497/229.20 mph, 1,000ft-4.432.
