LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Pacific Division, event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Hunter Jones Runs 5.637/258.32, Now #1

12:08 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 71 degrees, relative humidity 15 percent, barometer 30.07 inches, adjusted altitude 3,105 feet.

Jones goes down the groove with a decent pass to start this session.

Left Lane: Chris Marshall Runs 5.452/265.12, Now #1
Right Lane: Ray Martin Runs 6.308/175.05, Now #3

Marshall moves around a little early in the run but stays on the throttle and makes a good run to take the early pole. Martin had problems late in the run and the car nosed over about 1000 feet out.

Chris Marshall's incremental times: 60ft-0.918 sec., 330ft-2.419, 660ft-3.598/210.41 mph, 1,000ft-4.602.

Left Lane: Chip Beverett Runs 5.515/266.16, Now #2
Right Lane: Annie Whiteley Runs 9.584/118.83, Now #5

Beverett goes down the groove with a good pass to get in the second spot for now. Whiteley hits the throttle, breaks the slicks loose and gives up on the run.

Chip Beverett's incremental times: 60ft-0.958 sec., 330ft-2.479, 660ft-3.663/208.97 mph, 1,000ft-4.668.

Left Lane: Ulf Leanders Runs 5.550/262.13, Now #4
Right Lane: Brian Hough Runs 5.467/267.59, Now #2

A goods side-by-side, both down the groove with solid runs. Leanders gets in the fourth spot for now, Hough gets in the second spot.

Ulf Leanders' incremental times: 60ft-0.939 sec., 330ft-2.478, 660ft-3.673/207.30 mph, 1,000ft-4.691.

Brian Hough's incremental times: 60ft-0.948 sec., 330ft-2.462, 660ft-3.633/211.49 mph, 1,000ft-4.626.

Left Lane: Sean Bellemeur Runs 10.729/91.59, Now #9
Right Lane: Doug Gordon Runs 5.456/267.85, Now #2

Bellemeur hits the throttle and starts rattling the tires. He gets about sixty feet out and clicks it off. With the shut off, Bellemeur will not be in the qualified field.

Gordon goes down the groove with a clean, straight pass and he gets in the second spot to end this session.

Doug Gordon's incremental times: 60ft-0.945 sec., 330ft-2.454, 660ft-3.624/212.19 mph, 1,000ft-4.617.
