Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #2

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series, 23rd annual NHRA Nevada Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 4.036/296.44, Now #11; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Jeff Diehl Runs 7.603/82.46, Now #17; No Prior Run

4:31 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 73 degrees, relative humidity 32 percent, barometer 29.83 inches, adjusted altitude 3,650 feet, track temperature 92 degrees.

Haddock goes down the groove with a decent pass and he gets in the show in the 11th spot for now. Diehl hits the throttle, gets about 150 feet out, rattles the tires and clicks it off.

Left Lane: Bobby Bode Runs 5.753/119.06, Now #15; Best prior run: 4.255/235.35, Was #15
Right Lane: Blake Alexander Runs 7.954/94.18, Now #16; Best prior run: 5.916/120.40, Was #16

Bode gets about 200 feet out, rattles the tires and clicks it off. Alexander shook the tires off of the line, puffs the tires about 150 feet out and aborts the run.

Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 3.951/323.89, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.131/255.73, Was #13
Right Lane: Alex Laughlin Runs 4.067/295.72, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.040/302.96, Was #12

Pedregon goes down the groove with a good pass and he moves up to the eighth spot. Laughlin had a cylinder misfiring on the left side and it pushed him toward the centerline. He stayed on the throttle but slowed from his earlier attempt.

Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.885 sec., 330ft-2.278, 660ft-3.203/281.71 mph.

Left Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 3.902/300.26, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.958/328.62, Was #10
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 3.953/316.82, Now #11; Best prior run: 3.965/314.97, Was #11

DeJoria lost a cylinder about 600 feet out and started pushing to the left. She gets about 950 feet out and backs off of the throttle. She continues to drift left and gets close to the wall just past the finish line. Wilkerson makes a decent pass and improves a little but stays in the 11th spot.

Alexis DeJoria's incremental times: 60ft-0.884 sec., 330ft-2.238, 660ft-3.143/284.39 mph.

Tim Wilkerson's incremental times: 60ft-0.887 sec., 330ft-2.276, 660ft-3.192/280.54 mph.

Left Lane: Chad Green Runs 4.022/280.84, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.953/321.73, Was #10
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 3.907/331.36, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.928/322.73, Was #8

Green was on a decent pass but the car nosed over about 800 feet out. Capps goes down the groove with a good pass and moves up to the third spot for now.

Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.876 sec., 330ft-2.244, 660ft-3.169/280.54 mph.

Left Lane: John Force Runs 3.887/322.34, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.916/323.81, Was #8
Right Lane: Paul Lee Runs 3.927/323.81, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.915/323.97, Was #7

Force keeps the candles lit all the way through the run and moves up to the second spot for now. Lee makes a decent run but slows from his earlier attempt and drops a spot as Force goes around him.

John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.873 sec., 330ft-2.233, 660ft-3.140/280.78 mph.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 3.871/322.58, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.909/324.44, Was #6
Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 3.853/335.73, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.910/327.66, Was #7

A good side-by-side, both down the groove with good runs. Hagan improves and moves up to the second spot for now. Tasca makes an impressive pass and takes over the top spot for now.

Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.870 sec., 330ft-2.227, 660ft-3.128/283.73 mph.

Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.877 sec., 330ft-2.231, 660ft-3.129/288.39 mph.

Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 3.851/327.51, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.881/328.46, Was #3
Right Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 5.534/129.52, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.909/329.58, Was #7

Hight goes down the groove with the quickest pass of the day and he moves back into the top spot to end this session. Todd gets about 300 feet out, strikes the tires and gives up on the run.

Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.862 sec., 330ft-2.220, 660ft-3.116/286.98 mph.
