Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #1

ENNIS, Texas - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series, 38th annual Texas NHRA FallNationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Right Lane: Jeff Diehl Runs 4.171/248.22, Now #1

5:04 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 79 degrees, relative humidity 36 percent, barometer 29.86 inches, adjusted altitude 2,366 feet, track temperature 108 degrees.

Diehl left the line and looked like he lost a cylinder. he started moving toward the centerline, gets about 500 feet out and the engine goes silent.

Left Lane: Dale Creasy Jr. No Time, Now #3
Right Lane: Dave Richards 4.442/207.58, Now #2

Creasy leaves the line and gets out of the groove. he makes a move to the left, then back to the right and crosses the centerline. He hits Richards, Richards hits the wall past the finish line. Creasy's car spins around following Richards car, then makes a move back to the left. Richards car crosses over, hits the left wall and comes to a stop in the shutdown area. Creasy hits the left wall just behind Richards and comes to a stop.

Both drivers are out of the cars walking around.

Left Lane: Paul Lee Runs 4.656/173.37, Now #4
Right Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 4.057/302.60, Now #1

Lee was on a decent pass, in front of Haddock at the 330 foot mark, but gets about 500 feet out, strikes the tires and backs off of the throttle. Haddock makes a full pass and takes the early pole.

Paul Lee's incremental times: 60ft-0.886 sec., 330ft-2.262, 660ft-3.380/195.43 mph.

Terry Haddock's incremental times: 60ft-0.897 sec., 330ft-2.306, 660ft-3.259/266.76 mph.

Left Lane: Blake Alexander Runs 3.912/321.13, Now #1
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 5.100/145.89, Now #7

Pedregon gets about 400 feet out, loses traction and he backs off of the throttle. Alexander drifted to the right all the way through the run, getting close to centerline at the end of the run, but he hangs on and makes a good pass to take the top spot for now.

Blake Alexander's incremental times: 60ft-0.875 sec., 330ft-2.253, 660ft-3.164/284.22 mph.

Left Lane: Alex Laughlin Runs 4.039/304.88, Now #3
Right Lane: John Force Runs 3.887/325.95, Now #1

Laughlin makes a clean, straight pass and gets in the third spot for now. The rear of Force's car was moving around all the way through the run but he stayed on the throttle and made a good pass to move to the top of the field.

John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.865 sec., 330ft-2.230, 660ft-3.141/014.32 mph.

Left Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 3.951/323.11, Now #3
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 3.993/303.07, Now #4

DeJoria goes down the groove with a decent pass and she ges in the field in the third spot for now. Wilkerson lost a cylinder early in the run but stayed on the throttle and made a decent pass.

Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 3.930/295.10, Now #4
Right Lane: Chad Green Runs 3.928/328.80, Now #3

Todd was on a good pass but looks like he lost a cylinder late in the run and was off of the throttle a little early. Green makes a clean, straight pass and gets in the field in the third spot for now.

J.R. Todd's incremental times: 60ft-0.876 sec., 330ft-2.251, 660ft-3.163/285.06 mph.

Chad Green's incremental times: 60ft-0.887 sec., 330ft-2.274, 660ft-3.188.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 3.889/326.42, Now #2
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 3.916/321.70, Now #4

Capps goes down the groove with a good pass and gets in the field in the second spot for now. Hagan makes a decent pass but was falling behind all the way through.

Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.872 sec., 330ft-2.234, 660ft-3.148/285.32 mph.

Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 3.879/328.37, Now #2
Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 3.874/331.37, Now #1

A good side-by-side, both down the groove with solid runs to take the top two spots in the order. Tasca gets there first and moves into the top spot, Hight just behind in the second spot.

Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.869 sec., 330ft-2.239, 660ft-3.144/287.56 mph.
Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.873 sec., 330ft-2.239, 660ft-3.140.
