Top Alcohol Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #2

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series, 57th annual Auto Club NHRA Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Brian Hough Runs 5.481/266.32, Now #3; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Nick Januik Runs 5.530/265.90, Now #8; Best prior run: 8.143/113.52, Was #13

4:39 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 62 degrees, relative humidity 32 percent, barometer 30.06 inches, adjusted altitude 1,480 feet.

Doug Gordon is number one at 5.430. Field not filled, no bump spot.

Hough gets a big lead off the line and pulls steadily ahead to the current #3 spot on a strong and straight pass. this time

Januik chases hard and goes to #8.

Brian Hough's incremental times: 60ft-0.947 sec., 330ft-2.469, 660ft-3.640/212.03 mph, 1,000ft-4.637.
Nick Januik's incremental times: 60ft-0.967 sec., 330ft-2.504, 660ft-3.683/210.14 mph, 1,000ft-4.684.


Left Lane: Jim Whiteley Runs 5.526/265.69, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.522/264.03, Was #7
Right Lane: Matt Gill Runs 8.491/160.86, Now #14; Best prior run: 7.608/172.83, Was #14

Gill continues to struggle with traction and is off the pedal and coasting before the 330 lights.

No issues for Whiteley, as he basically repeats his session one run with a little more speed.

Jim Whiteley's incremental times: 60ft-0.968 sec., 330ft-2.501, 660ft-3.679/210.44 mph, 1,000ft-4.679.

Left Lane: Chris Marshall Runs 5.520/245.18, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.502/265.95, Was #6
Right Lane: Clint Thompson Runs 5.700/220.37, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.693/222.03, Was #13

Thompson runs close to his first pass to stay #13.

Marshall was on another strong pass until right before the lights, where there is a Big Boom from the engine and he slows.

Chris Marshall's incremental times: 60ft-0.959 sec., 330ft-2.488, 660ft-3.658/212.43 mph, 1,000ft-4.650.
Clint Thompson's incremental times: 60ft-0.999 sec., 330ft-2.529, 660ft-3.722/207.91 mph, 1,000ft-4.740.

Left Lane: Annie Whiteley Runs 5.509/269.78, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.498/269.13, Was #5
Right Lane: Ray Martin Runs 5.515/261.72, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.655/259.76, Was #12

A season best ET moves Martin up five spots on the ladder into the top half of the field for now. Nice!

Whiteley finds a little more speed, but will stay #5 for now on a clean and straight pass.

Annie Whiteley's incremental times: 60ft-0.963 sec., 330ft-2.513, 660ft-3.685/212.49 mph, 1,000ft-4.675.
Ray Martin's incremental times: 60ft-0.947 sec., 330ft-2.469, 660ft-3.651/209.98 mph, 1,000ft-4.659.

Left Lane: Sean Bellemeur Runs 7.690/122.13, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.494/265.74, Was #4
Right Lane: Jake Guadagnolo Runs 5.485/262.69, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.579/262.23, Was #12

Bellemeur leave right with Guadagnolo, but starts to slow before the 330 foot lights.

Big improvement for Guadagnolo to move eight spots up into the top four spot.

Jake Guadagnolo's incremental times: 60ft-0.946 sec., 330ft-2.436, 660ft-3.619/208.88 mph, 1,000ft-4.629.

Left Lane: Ulf Leanders Runs 5.426/267.06, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.451/264.49, Was #2
Right Lane: Mike Doushgounian No Time, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.562/262.03, Was #12

Doushgounian is running a converter car and something malfunctioned on the line. The car drives through the staging beams and he will not get a time. He slowly coasts down the track.

Leanders runs straight and true right into the top spot for now. Very nice!

Ulf Leanders' incremental times: 60ft-0.924 sec., 330ft-2.424, 660ft-3.590/212.16 mph, 1,000ft-4.584.

Left Lane: Doug Gordon Runs 5.423/269.29, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.430/270.70, Was #2
Right Lane: Shane Westerfield Runs 5.454/267.85, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.548/266.74, Was #11

Gordon runs straight down his lane and takes back the top spot by just 0.003 seconds. His speed doesn't improve, but goes into tomorrow's final session in #1!

Westerfield finds a little tune up and moves up eight spots into the #3 spot on a clean pass.

Doug Gordon's incremental times: 60ft-0.937 sec., 330ft-2.440, 660ft-3.601/213.94 mph, 1,000ft-4.588.
Shane Westerfield's incremental times: 60ft-0.940 sec., 330ft-2.458, 660ft-3.624/213.13 mph, 1,000ft-4.615.
