Erica Enders won her fifth Pro Stock championship in her Melling Performance/Elite Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro clinching the title in Las Vegas. This is her career best season. The Las Vegas win was her 10th of the season, the most ever for her in one season. There is still one more race this season, the Auto Club Finals in Pomona, Calif.. Enders opened the season by qualifying No. 1, setting low E.T. and winning the event in Pomona. It was a special win because it was the 900th race in Pro Stock history. She qualified number one with a 6.521 second pass at 210.44 mph. She defeated Cristian Cuadra in round one, Dallas Glenn in the quarterfinal and Greg Anderson in the semifinal. She matched up with her teammate Aaron Stanfield in the final. Enders in the right lane had a 0.050 second reaction time and ran 6.559 seconds at 210.31 mph to defeat Stanfield, who shook the tires and shut it off.
Enders qualified third at Phoenix and lost in the quarterfinal on a hole shot to Mason McGaha. She lost the point lead to her teammate Aaron Stanfield. In Gainesville, she qualified in the number three spot again and she set the National E.T. record and top speed of the event in round one, but lost to teammate Bo Butner on a hole shot. Enders qualified number four at the Four-Wide event in as Vegas. In round one Troy Coughlin Jr. and Enders defeated Steve Graham and Fernando Cuadra Jr. to advance to round two. There Enders and Cristian Cuadra defeated Coughlin Jr. and Stanfield to advance to the final. In the final she left second and was quickest on the track for the win over C. Cuadra, Mason McGaha & Dallas Glenn. She gained the point lead at Las Vegas 1 and has controlled the top spot since.
The next event on tour was at her home track, Houston Raceway Park, for the 35th annual NHRA SpringNationals. Enders qualified in the number two spot, behind rookie Camrie Caruso. It was the first time two women occupied the top two spots in Pro Stock. She defeated C. Cuadra, Matt Hartford and Kyle Koretsky before matching up with the number one qualifier Camrie Caruso in the final. In the first ever all-female Pro Stock final, Caruso had the starting line advantage, but Enders chased her down for her third win of the year. She won her third Wally for the season and second top speed award.
After a couple events off Pro Stock returned to Epping for the NHRA New England Nationals where she qualified in the number three spot. Enders ran low E.T. of the event in round one defeating Kenny Delco, followed by a win over Greg Anderson in the quarterfinals. She defeated Mason McGaha in the semifinal to advance to final to face her teammate Aaron Stanfield. In the final Enders left first and never trailed to defeat her teammate Stanfield. It's only the second time in her career where she's had a three-race winning streak.
The next race was at Bristol, she qualified number three and advancing to the final. She defeated C. Cuadra in round one, Hartford in the quarterfinal and Glenn in the semifinal. She lost in the final against her teammate Stanfield when her engine blew up.
In Norwalk, Enders qualified number one for the second time this season, she was 0.033 seconds quicker than the number two qualifier, Kyle Koretsky. She dominated during eliminations, running low E.T. of each round. She defeated Cuadra Jr. in round one, Hartford in the quarterfinals, Deric Kramer in the semifinal and Stanfield in the final. She swept the event, qualified number one, set low E.T., top speed of the event and won.
Enders started the Western Swing with a disappointing race at Denver. She qualified in the number two spot, but lost to Mason McGaha on a hole shot when he had a near perfect light, 0.003 seconds. In Sonoma, she dominated the race. She qualified number one, set low E.T, top speed and won the race. Enders qualified number two in Seattle and made the quickest passes in the first three rounds of eliminations. In the final even though she got the starting line advantage her teammate, Troy Coughlin Jr. chased her down for his first Pro Stock win.
In Topeka, Enders qualified in the number three position and in eliminations she again lost to her teammate Coughlin Jr., this time in the semifinal. The next race was the U.S. Nationals where she qualified in the number three spot. Dallas Glenn had an 0.005 second reaction time in the semifinal to beat Enders on a hole-shot. Even with the semi-final round loss Enders won the regular season championship by a margin of 204 points.
Reading was the first race of the "Countdown to the Championship" as the race was added to the schedule earlier in the year when the Koretsky family purchased the race track. Enders lead was cut to a 20 point advantage over her teammate Aaron Stanfield. She responded by running low E.T. of the round two out of the three rounds of qualifying, and she was the second quickest in the other session. She qualified number two and she ran the quickest pass of round one of eliminations to defeat Alan Prusiensky. Enders with the quickest pass of the quarterfinal, semifinals and the final to defeat Hartford, Koretsky and in the final her teammate Coughlin Jr.. She set top speed of the event, and won the race. She left Reading with a 81 point lead over second place Greg Anderson.
The tour moved to the 14th annual Betway NHRA Carolina Nationals at zMAX Dragway. During qualifying Enders ran low E.T. of each qualifying round to earn the maximum qualifying bonus points, nine. She qualified number one and defeated Larry Morgan in round one and then beat C. Cuadra in the quarterfinals, running low E.T. of each of those rounds. Matt Hartford stopped Enders in the semifinal when she shook and clicked it off early. Her lead shrunk to 64 points over her teammate Stanfield who won the event. She set low E.T. and top speed of the event and had the quickest pass in five of her six rounds.
Enders qualified fourth in St. Louis at the 11th annual NHRA Midwest Nationals. In eliminations her car came alive, she had the second quickest pass of round one defeating Chris McGaha, she ran low E.T. of the quarterfinals, semi-finals and in the final defeating Coughlin Jr, Koretsky and Glenn. She increased her point lead to 120 points over her teammate Stanfield.
In Dallas Enders ran the quickest pass of each round in qualifying, including Friday night winning the $7,500 bonus. She qualified number one for the fifth time this season. Enders then had the quickest pass in each of the rounds of eliminations, defeating Cuadra Jr. in round one, Hartford in the quarterfinals, Stanfield in the semifinal and Anderson in the final. She increased her lead over Stanfield to 163 points.
Enders qualified number one in the third session of qualifying. This was the sixth time this season she has qualified number one and that matches her career high for number one spots in a season at six. She also did it in 2014 and 2015. She had the quickest pass in round one when she beat Kenny Delco. In the quarterfinals she again had the quickest pass of the round in defeating Dallas Glenn. When Stanfield lost in the quarterfinals opened the door for Enders to clinch the Pro Stock title if she won her semifinal match up. She ran low E.T. of the round and beat Koretsky to win her fifth Pro Stock Championship. Enders once again has the quickest pass of the round and the event win over teammate Coughlin Jr. Enders with another impressive event, she won the race, her ninth at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. She also qualified number one, set low E.T. and had top speed of the event. She heads to Pomona with the trophy in hand and 224 point lead over Stanfield.
