Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #2

MADISON, Ill. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series, 11th annual NHRA Midwest Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 3.893/329.58, Now #3; Best prior run: 10.582/67.72, Was #15
Right Lane: Blake Alexander Runs 3.941/323.66, Now #6; Best prior run: 7.770/92.87, Was #13

3:24 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 73 degrees, relative humidity 30 percent, barometer 30.12 inches, adjusted altitude 1,361 feet, track temperature 112 degrees.

A good side-by-side, both right down the groove, header flames high and steady all the way through.

Capps struck the tires at the hit last night but he keeps the slicks stuck on this one and moves all the way up to the third spot. Alexander makes a full pass and moves up to the sixth spot for now.

Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.871 sec., 330ft-2.231, 660ft-3.153/280.78 mph.

Blake Alexander's incremental times: 60ft-0.889 sec., 330ft-2.262, 660ft-3.188/277.37 mph.

Left Lane: Jim Campbell Runs 4.497/191.10, Now #11; Best prior run: 7.888/73.81, Was #15
Right Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 3.989/309.84, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.074/89.19, Was #13

Campbell gets about 400 feet out, strikes the tires and gives up on the run. he still is able to improve ad move up to the 11th spot for now. Todd was moving around late in the run but makes a full pass and moves up to the seventh spot for now.

Left Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 11.576/66.09, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.076/95.56, Was #15
Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.408/198.82, Now #11; Best prior run: 5.713/122.17, Was #14

DeJoria hits the throttle and goes up in smoke. Tasca was on a good pass, then ges about 500 feet out, hazes the tires and gives up on the run.

Left Lane: Terry Haddock No Time, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.532/128.84, Was #14
Right Lane: Daniel Wilkerson Runs 7.137/85.71, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.786/149.30, Was #13

Haddock hit the throttle and it sounded like he banged the blower. The chutes deploy and he comes to a stop about ten feet from the starting line. Wilkerson gets about 400 feet out, strikes the tires and has to back off of the throttle.

Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 3.928/324.59, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.276/214.79, Was #10
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.199/234.13, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.897/331.36, Was #5

Wilkerson goes down the groove with a good pass and he moves up to the sixth spot for now. Pedregon was on a decent pass but the candles went out about 700 feet out, not sure why.

Left Lane: Dale Creasy Jr. Runs 9.507/81.19, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.027/290.32, Was #9
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.041/257.92, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.896/334.98, Was #4

Creasy has problems early in the run and is out of power about 60 feet out. Hagan was on a decent pass, then starts moving around late in the run and he backs off of the throttle.

Left Lane: John Force Runs 3.906/327.35, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.853/334.15, Was #2
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 6.459/103.91, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.853/336.32, Was #1

Force goes down the groove with a good pass but he doesn't improve. Hight strikes the tires about 300 feet out and he has to give up on the run.

John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.868 sec., 330ft-2.243, 660ft-3.162/278.92 mph.
