Funny Car Round 1 Eliminations

POMONA, Calif. - Results of round 1 eliminations in Funny Car at the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series, 56th annual Auto Club NHRA Finals:

10:29 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 81 degrees, relative humidity 20 percent, barometer 30.10 inches, adjusted altitude 2,642 feet, track temperature 93 degrees.

This is the 4th time this year that Paul Lee has been in the top half of the field. Jeff Diehl is making his 82nd start and his 4th this year. This is the first time Diehl and Lee have faced each other in eliminations.

Diehl gets a small starting line advantage, but strikes the tires right after that.

Lee Runs straight and true to the finish line and improves on his qualifying times for the easy win.

Paul Lee's incremental times: 60ft-0.886 sec., 330ft-2.249, 660ft-3.168/282.01 mph.

Robert Hight is 60 - 10 in round one when #1 qualifier. This is the first meeting between these two this year. Hight is 6 - 2 against Campbell in prior events.

UPSET! They leave just 0.001 apart at the green and then Hight's Camaro strikes the tires immediately.

Campbell's Charger gets to around the 30 lights and the engine goes silent and he is coasting. Hight try to recover, but Campbell's car has enough momentum to take the win.

Alexis DeJoria has been in the top half of the field 17 times this year. Bobby Bode is making his 9th start this year. This is the first time Bode and DeJoria have faced each other in eliminations.

Bode gets a small starting line advantage, but shakes the slicks loose around the 330 foot lights.

DeJoria powers to the finish line for the easy win.

Alexis DeJoria's incremental times: 60ft-0.890 sec., 330ft-2.269, 660ft-3.191/280.95 mph.

Ron Capps wins 73% of his round one races when starting from the top half of the field. Terry Haddock is one - 6 against Capps. All of the races have been in round one. Capps is 6 - 1 against Haddock in prior events.

Haddock is late and has the tires smoking about 30 feet out.

Capps keeps on keeping on, matching his qualifying ET and the easy win.

Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.875 sec., 330ft-2.241, 660ft-3.159/278.92 mph.

For his career John Force is 581 - 201 in round one (74%). Chad Green is the 147th driver to face John Force in eliminations. Of those 146 drivers 59 have never beaten Force. This is the first time Green and Force have faced each other in eliminations.

Force gets the starting advantage and pulls steadily ahead to the finish lin for the win. He gives up lane choice to Lee in round two.

Green makes his best run of the weekend attempting to chase Force to the end. The engine puts out at ton of smoke right before the lights and locks up on the track near the turnout.

Chad Green's incremental times: 60ft-0.897 sec., 330ft-2.292, 660ft-3.231/276.58 mph.
John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.895 sec., 330ft-2.274, 660ft-3.198/281.71 mph.

Matt Hagan has not lost three round one races in a row in his last 40 races. Tony Jurado is making his 4th start. Hagan is 1 - 0 against Jurado in prior events.

This is a "Do or Die" for Hagan, as Capps has already won his race this round. He is away first and holds off a strong Jurado to take the vital win. That's the good news! The bad news is that he gives up lane choice to Capps in round two.

Jurado Makes his best pass of the weekend, but is no match for Hagan.

Tony Jurado's incremental times: 60ft-0.893 sec., 330ft-2.289, 660ft-3.218/277.43 mph.
Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.873 sec., 330ft-2.239, 660ft-3.175/272.78 mph.

Cruz Pedregon starts the day with 598 round wins. He has 30 round wins this year which is his 3rd most in the last 20 years. This is the 510th start for Tim Wilkerson. He is 2 - 3 against Cruz this year. Pedregon is 24 - 21 against Wilkerson in prior events.

Wilkerson gets away first and makes his best pass of the weekend to take the win and keep lane choice in his round two match up with DeJoria.

Pedregon was chasing hard, but had the slicks come loose early.

Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.909 sec., 330ft-2.300, 660ft-3.497/187.21 mph.

J.R. Todd wins 67% of his round one races when he has lane choice. Bob Tasca is 2 - 0 against Todd this year. Todd is 6 - 4 against Tasca III in prior events.

Tasca gets the initial RT advantage, but Todd gets back out in front immediately. He finally powers on by right at the 660 foot lights,

Todd has to lift and coast.

Tasca will gain lane choice over Campbell in round two.

Bob Tasca III's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.009), 330 ft(-0.011), 660ft(0.011). MOV: 0.1556 seconds (approximately 57 feet).

Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.903 sec., 330ft-2.284, 660ft-3.207/281.48 mph.
J.R. Todd's incremental times: 60ft-0.879 sec., 330ft-2.258, 660ft-3.203/260.81 mph.
