Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #2
By Dave Gerard

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series, 56th annual Auto Club NHRA Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Jason Rupert Runs 19.986/32.74, Now #20; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Gary Densham Runs 5.130/155.01, Now #15; No Prior Run

12:56 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 88 degrees, relative humidity 15 percent, barometer 30.01 inches, adjusted altitude 3,190 feet.

Hight is number one at 3.94. Chris Morel is on the bump spot at 7.165.

The "Safety System" on Densham's Mustang disabled the throttle and he wasn't able to make a pass yesterday. The engine is dropping cylinders and he is off the throttle early and coasting this time. He still gets into the field on a broken pass.

Rupert did make an attempt yesterday and is up in smoke at the hit today.

Left Lane: Jim Campbell Runs 4.138/273.83, Now #11; Best prior run: 7.606/78.24, Was #18
Right Lane: Bobby Bode Runs 4.057/310.70, Now #10; Best prior run: 10.548/81.44, Was #19

Terry Haddock is on the bump spot at 6.460.

Campbell has his hands full as the Charger pulled steadily towards the center line going down the track. He keeps it in his male and moves into the field in the current #11 spot.

Bode gets near a full pull and bumps into the field in the #10 position.

Jim Campbell's incremental times: 60ft-0.887 sec., 330ft-2.270, 660ft-3.263/245.99 mph.
Bobby Bode's incremental times: 60ft-0.873 sec., 330ft-2.300, 660ft-3.271/264.39 mph.

Left Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 4.081/311.27, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.460/116.42, Was #18
Right Lane: Chris Morel Runs 5.823/123.93, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.165/90.61, Was #19

J.R. Todd is on the bump spot at 4.978.

Morel's Charger spins the tires off the line and moves towards the wall. He gives it a quick pedal, but it won't recover.

Haddock was on a good pass until the Mustang moved towards the wall and he may have had to click it a little early.

Terry Haddock's incremental times: 60ft-0.915 sec., 330ft-2.344, 660ft-3.301/268.60 mph.

Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 6.058/111.15, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.978/154.23, Was #17
Right Lane: Paul Lee Runs 4.308/217.49, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.432/248.98, Was #14

Alex Miladinovich is on the bump spot at 4.734.

They leave with identical RT's and Todd initially has the better numbers. The tires shake loose after the 60 foot lights and he is done.

Lee gets to near the 330 lights before his Charger is up in smoke and he has to lift. He still move up one spot on the ladder.

Left Lane: Alex Miladinovich Runs 4.941/163.08, Now #16; Best prior run: 4.734/206.67, Was #16
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.408/210.44, Now #14; Best prior run: 4.346/221.09, Was #14

Miladinovich stays on the bump for the session with a broken pass.

Wilkerson gets way down track before he is off the throttle and coasting too.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 3.956/319.75, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.483/187.65, Was #15

Much better! Hagan needs the "Little Points" and with the current conditions this might help!

He runs straight and true to the finish line and move up into the top half of the field and the #6 position

Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.880 sec., 330ft-2.263, 660ft-3.202/276.58 mph.

Neither driver will improve.

Right Lane: John Force Runs 3.971/324.12, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.939/328.14, Was #3

Clean and straight for Force to stay in the #3 position.

Jurado drives into smoke before the 330 lights and slows.

John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.874 sec., 330ft-2.276, 660ft-3.217/275.90 mph.

Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 3.985/319.52, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.975/318.24, Was #7
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 3.935/325.45, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.908/329.83, Was #2

Two strong passes this time. Both cars run well to the finish line, but can't improve on yesterday's times.

Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.886 sec., 330ft-2.283, 660ft-3.225/275.39 mph.

Alexis DeJoria's incremental times: 60ft-0.889 sec., 330ft-2.292, 660ft-3.243/273.77 mph.
Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.876 sec., 330ft-2.271, 660ft-3.198/278.35 mph.
