Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #1

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series, 56th annual Auto Club NHRA Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Alex Miladinovich Runs 4.734/206.67, Now #1
Right Lane: Gary Densham No Time, Now #2

4:05 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 88 degrees, relative humidity 16 percent, barometer 30.03 inches, adjusted altitude 3,187 feet, track temperature 103 degrees.

Densham's Mustang just sat in the lights when the tree came down and he shut off the engine. Weird!

Miladinovich has a strong leave, but is coasting before the 660 lights.


Right Lane: Chris Morel Runs 7.165/90.61, Now #2

MOrel fires and falls back right after the 60 foot lights.

Left Lane: Tony Jurado Runs 3.988/316.08, Now #1
Right Lane: Jeff Diehl Runs 4.031/314.24, Now #2

Two passes to the finish line this time!

Jurado is just 0.00 off of his career best on a clean pass.

Diehl runs his seasons best right behind him.

Tony Jurado's incremental times: 60ft-0.890 sec., 330ft-2.278, 660ft-3.221/273.11 mph.
Jeff Diehl's incremental times: 60ft-0.925 sec., 330ft-2.313, 660ft-3.258/269.24 mph.

Left Lane: Chad Green Runs 4.002/315.19, Now #2
Right Lane: Bobby Bode Runs 10.548/81.44, Now #6

Green makes a clean pass , but drifts close to the center line near the finish line.

Bode kicks the tires loose right at the green and he clicks it off.

Chad Green's incremental times: 60ft-0.892 sec., 330ft-2.299, 660ft-3.237/275.84 mph.

Left Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 6.460/116.42, Now #6
Right Lane: Paul Lee Runs 4.432/248.98, Now #4

Haddock's Mustang gets loose early and he is done.

Lee gets to near the 660 lights before giving it up too.

Left Lane: Jim Campbell Runs 7.606/78.24, Now #9
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.346/221.09, Now #4

Campbell's Charger is running the traditional "Mooneyes" wrap this weekend.

Almost a repeat of the last pair, with Campbell coasting first,, shortly followed by Wilkerson after that.

Left Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 3.954/318.92, Now #2
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 3.894/330.55, Now #1

Hight returns to his prior performance tuneup and powers to the new top spot with a big ET and speed!

Clean pass for DeJoria into the number two spot for now.

Alexis DeJoria's incremental times: 60ft-0.891 sec., 330ft-2.270, 660ft-3.198/278.81 mph.
Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.872 sec., 330ft-2.241, 660ft-3.155/282.72 mph.

Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 3.975/318.24, Now #4
Right Lane: John Force Runs 3.939/328.14, Now #2

Nice side by side passes into the top four.

Tasca gets a big advantage off the line, but Force has better incrementals going down the track.

Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.881 sec., 330ft-2.275, 660ft-3.215/276.29 mph.
John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.867 sec., 330ft-2.246, 660ft-3.188/275.73 mph.

Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 4.978/154.23, Now #12
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 3.939/321.96, Now #3

They leave together, just 0.001 apart and stay within 0.02 until right before the 660 light, where Todd's slicks get loose and he is coasting.

Pedregon powers on down the track to take the new #3 spot.

J.R. Todd's incremental times: 60ft-0.875 sec., 330ft-2.273, 660ft-3.543/171.47 mph.
Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.877 sec., 330ft-2.251, 660ft-3.183/275.22 mph.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.483/187.65, Now #12
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 3.908/329.83, Now #2

Capps gets another three qualifying points with a clean pass to the finish line.

Hagan was away first and had better incremental until right around the 330 foot lights, when the tires slake loose.

Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.875 sec., 330ft-2.235, 660ft-3.165/277.77 mph.

4:38 p.m. Hight stays number one and Chris Morel is on the bump spot at 7.165.
