Top Alcohol Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #2
By Dave Gerard

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series, 56th annual Auto Club NHRA Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Jake Guadagnolo Runs 5.669/240.42, Now #7; Best prior run: 12.148/63.55, Was #9
Right Lane: Don Hudson Runs 5.847/249.90, Now #8; No Prior Run

1:57 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 89 degrees, relative humidity 18 percent, barometer 30.03 inches, adjusted altitude 3,283 feet.

Bellemeur is number one with a 5.474 and the field not filled, no bump spot.

Hudson runs straight and true right on down the strip this time and moves up to the current #8 spot.

Guadagnolo gets a full pass too and moves up into the #7 spot.

Jake Guadagnolo's incremental times: 60ft-0.954 sec., 330ft-2.515, 660ft-3.738/203.86 mph, 1,000ft-4.774.
Don Hudson's incremental times: 60ft-1.016 sec., 330ft-2.632, 660ft-3.879/199.64 mph, 1,000ft-4.944.

Left Lane: Ray Martin Runs 5.599/260.66, Now #7; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Mike Doushgounian Runs 5.722/250.46, Now #9; No Prior Run

Two good leaves and Doushgounian has to do a quick pedal slap before the 330 and looks to have clicked it off early. Looks like oil on the track after the top end lights.

Martin lost a good time yesterday to a timing reflector incident by Hudson. He makes a full pass again today for the current #7 spot.

Ray Martin's incremental times: 60ft-0.952 sec., 330ft-2.518, 660ft-3.717/207.56 mph, 1,000ft-4.737.
Mike Doushgounian's incremental times: 60ft-0.977 sec., 330ft-2.624, 660ft-3.841/205.72 mph, 1,000ft-4.857.

Left Lane: Brian Hough Runs 5.573/264.91, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.543/259.16, Was #5
Right Lane: Nick Januik Runs 5.693/262.03, Now #9; Best prior run: 10.889/91.71, Was #12

2:18 p.m. Back to qualifying!

Much better pass for Januik this time to move him up three spots on the ladder to #9.

Hough is a little faster, but loses a little ET in the heat of the day to stay #5.

Brian Hough's incremental times: 60ft-0.973 sec., 330ft-2.528, 660ft-3.717/209.10 mph, 1,000ft-4.722.
Nick Januik's incremental times: 60ft-0.965 sec., 330ft-2.564, 660ft-3.801/203.25 mph, 1,000ft-4.830.

Left Lane: Terry Ruckman Runs 8.799/98.09, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.514/267.80, Was #4
Right Lane: Chris Marshall Runs 10.017/91.19, Now #12; Best prior run: 9.721/47.96, Was #12

Both cars fire and fall back after shake and spin off the line.

Left Lane: Shane Westerfield Runs 7.028/140.05, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.498/267.80, Was #3
Right Lane: Ulf Leanders Runs 5.578/263.92, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.577/262.85, Was #6

Westerfield nails the tree with an eight light and a strong 60 foot time, has his Camaro power towards the center lie and he has to life early.

Leanders is just 0.001 off his prior ET,but finds some more speed to stay #6.

Left Lane: Sean Bellemeur Runs 5.566/243.85, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.474/269.89, Was #1
Right Lane: Doug Gordon Runs 9.584/92.59, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.493/267.48, Was #2

They leave just 0.004 apart at the green, but Gordon is coasting before the 30 lights.

Bellemeur runs hard to right before the lights, where there is a lot of smoke out from underneath the Camaro. No oil on the track though!

2:30 p.m. Sean Bellemeur stays number one and Field not filled, no bump spot. His incremental times: 60ft-0.954 sec., 330ft-2.491, 660ft-3.671/209.65 mph, 1,000ft-4.682.
