LAS VEGAS -- Nick Smith, Dan Caissie, Derrick Jackson and Garreth Sheppeard win Summit ET National Championships at the 21st Annual Dodge//SRT NHRA Nationals presented by Pennzoil at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Summit Super Pro -- Nick Smith, KLRC, 7.256, 182.50 defeated Joseph Bagwell, 7.943, 170.95.
Smith celebrates his first Summit ET Championship in his first appearance. He would like to thank or recognize his mom and dad, girlfriend Christina, their dog Brooks, Ardmore Dragway, Buddy Wood, Boo Honeycutt, PRO1 Saftey and BRODIX.
Nick Smith and Christina from Altus, Okla. He started racing in Junior Dragsters when eight years old. He has won 2017 $25k Showdowns main event. He has been to multiple $5k, $10k finals, a $15k and $20k runner up.
Nick Smith drove his 2019 Kasey Lane Race Cars dragster with 598 ci Chevy to the Division Four super Pro Championship to earn his trip to Las Vegas. He defeat Mike Brundage in round one and Todd Piper in the semifinal.
Summit Pro ET -- Dan Caissie, Mercury Capri, 9.460, 140.37 defeated Brandon Schmall, Chevy
Beretta, 9.530, 133.78.
Dan Caissie celebrates his first Summit ET Championship in his second appearance, he was here in 2015 in Sportsman. He would like to thank or recognize Megan Lincoln and her kids they support me 100%. Also my son Dan Jr. and my whole family, Justin Bruso, Steve Gregoire, Nelson Belot and Jim Blake.
Dan Caissie and Megan Lincoln, he has only owned the 1980s Mercury Capri tube chassis car with a Nelson Belot engine and Gregoire transmission on M/T Pro Bracket Radials less than a year. It's still a footbrake car that runs low 9's close to 150 mph
Dan Caissie from Thompson, Conn. Started racing in 1980s in a V8 Pinto but took a long break from racing. I came back into the sport in the early 2000's and built a 1987 Ford Mustang with a big block Ford. Between the two cars Caissie has over 100 wins, five track championships thee different tracks, two Division 1 championships, Sportsman 2015, Pro 2021 and one World Championship 2020 NMCA Open Comp
Summit Sportsman -- Derrick Jackson, Chevy El Camino, 12.182, 105.82 defeatd Gary Hairfield,
Chevy Corvette, 12.213, 108.44.
Derrick Jackson won his first Summit ET championship in his second final (2006 Sportsman) in his fifth appearance at the Summit ET Championships. He wants to thank and recognize his Rachael Martin (Girlfriend), Tom Jackson (Brother), Tony Wilson of Wilson's NAPA Auto Parts, Rene Crunelle of RC Collision Center and Alan Snyder of Last Lap Restaurant and Sports.
Derrick Jackson drove his brother's 1970 Chevy El Camino to the win. His normal race vehicle is a blue 1967 Dodge A100 pick-up truck sponsored by NAPA (it broke the weekend before the ET Finals). He drove the El Camino in the Sportsman class at the National Championship run off in 2006 in Pomona (Runner Up finish). My brother normally runs the El Camino in the Pro class.
Derrick Jackson averaged a .013 reaction time over the six rounds to win the Division Six Sportsman Championship. He said he grew up at the race track. Dad and Uncle raced in the 70's, 80's & 90's. He has won four ET Finals Division 6 Race of Champions (Saturday). Also he has won four ET Finals Division 6 Team race (Sunday). He has won 24 Woodburn Dragstrip track points championships and 20 NHRA Wally's.
Summit ET Motorcycle -- Garreth Sheppeard, Suzuki Hayabusa, 8.221, 177.30 defeated Erik
Crosby, Kawasaki Ninja, 9.418, 139.40.
Garreth Sheppeard would like to than and recognize first and always first his mom Melinda, and hisy father Scott. The whole Shellhaas family, Dustin Lee with Hard Times Parts and Service, David Liguori for all the Fueltech help, and Frank Moore with Alotmoore Paint and body.
Garreth Sheppeard won with 2012 Suzuki Hayabusa. It is street bike that they modified to make it a better suited platform for bracket racing. He started racing when he was eight years old in a Junior dragster during that time he had quite a few wins and one track championship at Kil Kare raceway in Ohio. At seventeen he got his chance to ride a dragbike, thanks to big Brad Shellhass. Since then he has won three track championships, one overall championship, and three Wally trophies at National Trails, as well as a few big checks from the all bike events they attend.
