Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #2

MADISON, Ill. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series, 10th annual NHRA Midwest Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Chris King Runs 17.337/49.13, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.334/98.49, Was #15

2:50 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 74 degrees, relative humidity 35 percent, barometer 30.09 inches, adjusted altitude 1,526 feet, track temperature 112 degrees.

King hits the throttle and goes up in smoke. He gets about 60 feet out and clicks it off.

Right Lane: John Force Runs 3.915/304.94, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.816/125.75, Was #14

Force was on a good run for about 800 feet. At that point, the chutes deploy prematurely, and he slows as he goes through the lights. He still makes a decent pass and moves up to the eighth spot.

Left Lane: Dale Creasy Jr. Runs 4.655/178.61, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.094/305.77, Was #10
Right Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 3.983/323.43, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.291/212.26, Was #14

Creasy gets about 500 feet out, the car gets out of shape, and he has to back off of the throttle. DeJoria makes a clean pass and improves, moving up to the tenth spot for now.

Left Lane: Blake Alexander Runs 3.955/322.27, Now #9; Best prior run: 3.926/324.36, Was #9
Right Lane: Jim Campbell Runs 3.995/317.27, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.177/259.51, Was #13

Alexander starts moving forward to stage and the front end of the car is too low and it starts flickering the light. He finally gets it staged, hits the throttle and goes down the groove with a decent pass but he doesn't improve. Campbell goes down the roove with a clean pass and moves up to the 11th spot for now.

Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 5.227/142.04, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.915/330.72, Was #7
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.158/229.51, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.129/234.33, Was #13

Todd gets about 400 feet out, loses traction and has to give up on the run. Pedregon gets a little further, strikes the tires and has to abort the run.

Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 3.936/328.54, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.907/329.91, Was #6
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 3.934/324.44, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.905/322.11, Was #5

Tasca goes down the groove with a clean straight pass but he doesn't improve. Wilkerson was drifting to the r\left all the way through the run, crosses the finish line, then the car makes a move toward the wall. he makes a decent pass but doesn't improve.

Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.958/153.46, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.902/326.87, Was #4
Right Lane: Bobby Bode Runs 3.927/313.58, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.891/322.04, Was #3

Hight was on a good pass for about 500 feet, then has traction problems and he backs off of the throttle. Bode makes a good pass but it looks like he was chewing up pistons all the way through the run. The left side header flames were green early, then the right side flames turned green for the last half of the run.

Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.866 sec., 330ft-2.246, 660ft-3.513/170.86 mph.
Bobby Bode's incremental times: 60ft-0.867 sec., 330ft-2.221, 660ft-3.153/272.61 mph.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 3.911/329.10, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.889/332.75, Was #2
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.044/317.94, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.888/332.59, Was #1

Hagan goes down the groove with the quickest pass of the round. Capps gets about 900 feet out and it looks like he lost a cylinder or two.
