Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Final Session

CONCORD, N.C. - Notes from final, round 3 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series, 13th annual DeWalt NHRA Carolina Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Dave Richards Runs 4.116/287.23, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.142/300.73, Was #13

6:59 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 85 degrees, relative humidity 56 percent, barometer 30.03 inches, adjusted altitude 3,060 feet.

Richards goes down the groove with his quickest pass of the weekend but he stays in the 13th spot.

Left Lane: Tony Jurado Runs 4.445/211.83, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.099/274.44, Was #12
Right Lane: Blake Alexander Runs 3.947/318.24, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.027/110.68, Was #15

Alexander goes down the groove with his first full pass of the weekend and he moves up to the 10th spot.

Jurado has problems and is off of the throttle early.

Left Lane: Jim Campbell Runs 4.063/308.50, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.053/313.80, Was #12

Campbell goes down the groove with a decent pass, header flames high and steady all the way through. He doesn't improve and will stay in the 12th spot.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 3.895/326.00, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.922/326.16, Was #8
Right Lane: Mike McIntire No Time, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.026/283.97, Was #11

Capps goes right down the groove with a good pass, his quickest of the weekend, and he moves up to the fifth spot.

McIntire starts moving to the left, gets about 600 feet out and crosses over the centerline. He takes out a couple of timing cones and falls in behind Capps in the left lane.

Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 3.913/327.27, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.914/323.12, Was #8
Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 3.921/326.56, Now #9; Best prior run: 3.930/328.70, Was #9

A good side-by-side, they were glued together all the way through the run. Neither improves enough to move in the order and they will take on each other in the first round tomorrow.

Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 5.352/132.69, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.879/323.58, Was #3
Right Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 3.926/324.98, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.907/328.62, Was #7

Pedregon gets about 300 feet out, loses traction, then backs off of the throttle.

DeJoria makes a clean pass but doesn't improve.

Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 3.901/328.86, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.878/330.07, Was #2
Right Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 5.941/115.35, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.899/326.08, Was #6

Todd gets about 300 feet out and the tires break loose.

Hight goes down the groove with another good pass and he will stay in the second spot.

Left Lane: John Force Runs 3.942/320.89, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.860/332.18, Was #1
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 3.893/327.11, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.891/330.55, Was #4

Force makes a good pass but crosses the centerline just past the finish line. It is his second infraction and it will cost him ten points. He will start from the top spot for the 163rd time.

Hagan makes another good pass but he doesn't improve and will stay in the fourth spot.
