Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #1
By Dave Rowe

CONCORD, N.C. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series, 13th annual DeWalt NHRA Carolina Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: Tony Jurado Runs 4.099/274.44, Now #1

7:30 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 78 degrees, relative humidity 69 percent, barometer 30.07 inches, adjusted altitude 2,605 feet.

Jurado was on a decent pass, then started drifting toward the left, gets close to taking out a timing block, and he backs off the throttle about 900 feet out.

Left Lane: Mike McIntire Runs 4.026/283.97, Now #1
Right Lane: Dave Richards Runs 4.142/300.73, Now #3

McIntire was on a decent pass but it looks like he may have lost a cylinder late in the run. Richards makes a full pull and gets in the third spot for now.

Left Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 4.347/259.06, Now #4
Right Lane: Jim Campbell Runs 4.397/215.86, Now #5

A couple of busted runs, both out of power early. Haddock gets about 900 feet out and the car noses over. Campbell gets about 800 feet out and the candles go out.

Left Lane: Blake Alexander Runs 6.027/110.68, Now #7
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 3.914/323.12, Now #1

Alexander gets about 300 feet out and has problems. Wilkerson went right down the groove with a good pass but it looks like it may have clicked off a tick early.

Left Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 3.907/328.62, Now #2
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 3.879/323.58, Now #1

A good side-by-side, both cars right down the groove, header flames high and steady all the way through the run. Pedregon moves into the top spot, DeJoria gets in just behind in the second spot.

Alexis DeJoria's incremental times: 60ft-0.882 sec., 330ft-2.242, 660ft-3.164/280.66 mph.
Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.863 sec., 330ft-2.215, 660ft-3.131/283.55 mph.

Left Lane: Bob Tasca III No Time, Now #11
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 3.878/330.07, Now #1

Tasca completes his burnout and can't get it in reverse. They get the car pushed back, Tasca can't get the car in forward, then he has to click it off. Hight goes down the groove with a good pass to take the top spot for now.

Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 3.899/326.08, Now #3
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 3.922/326.16, Now #6

Todd leaves the line and drifts a little to the left. He stays on the throttle, keeps it off of the wall and makes a good pass. Capps makes a clean pass and gets in the sixth spot for now.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 3.891/330.55, Now #4
Right Lane: John Force Runs 3.860/332.18, Now #1

A great side-by-side, just what you would expect from the top two in the points. Force goes right down the groove with the quickest pass of the round to take the top spot. Hagan makes a good pass and gets in the fourth spot to end this session.
