CONCORD, N.C. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series, 13th annual DeWalt NHRA Carolina Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Right Lane: Brad McBride Runs 6.465/156.79, Now #1

2:12 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 80 degrees, relative humidity 74 percent, barometer 30.12 inches, adjusted altitude 2,711 feet.

McBride looked like he had a hole or two out on the left side all the way through the run and he backs off the throttle early.

Left Lane: Corey Michalek Runs 5.251/277.72, Now #1
Right Lane: Megan Smith Runs 5.670/211.39, Now #2

Michalek goes right down the groove with a good pass, a career best for him, and he takes the early pole. Smith was falling behind from the start and backed off of the throttle a little early.

Corey Michalek's incremental times: 60ft-0.940 sec., 330ft-2.414, 660ft-3.518/228.65 mph 1,000ft-4.448.

Left Lane: Dan Mercier Runs 5.249/271.62, Now #1
Right Lane: Jared Dreher Runs 5.438/260.51, Now #3

Mercier with a clean, straight pass and he moves into the top spot for now. Dreher makes a decent pass but was falling behind all the way through the run.

Left Lane: Dan Dietrich Runs 6.183/167.68, Now #6
Right Lane: Mick Steele Runs 5.633/250.83, Now #4

Dietrich was on a decent pass but has problems he backs off of the throttle early. Steele makes a clean pass but was a little sluggish all the way through the run.

Left Lane: Robin Samsel Runs 5.328/273.39, Now #4
Right Lane: Duane Shields Runs 5.231/277.54, Now #1

Shields goes right down the groove with a good pass and takes the top spot for now. Samsel makes a clean pass and gets in the fourth spot for now.

Duane Shields' incremental times: 60ft-0.939 sec., 330ft-2.410, 660ft-3.501/232.11 mph, 1,000ft-4.430.

Left Lane: Matthew Cummings Runs 5.123/280.54, Now #1
Right Lane: Joey Severance No Time, Now #11

Severance breaks and does not make a pass. Cummings goes down the groove with an impressive pass, a career best ET for him, and he takes the top spot for now.

Matthew Cummings' incremental times: 60ft-0.916 sec., 330ft-2.349, 660ft-3.415/235.68 mph, 1,000ft-4.329.

Left Lane: Karen Stalba Runs 5.242/278.46, Now #3
Right Lane: Jasmine Salinas Runs 5.293/280.37, Now #6

A good side-by-side, both right down the groove with full passes. Stalba moves into the third spot for now, Salinas into sixth.

Left Lane: Julie Nataas Runs 8.150/99.27, Now #14
Right Lane: Rachel Meyer Runs 7.933/105.08, Now #13

Meyer gets out of shape and has to give up on the run about 400 feet out. Nataas was off the throttle early.
