Where there's a will, there's a way, and in 2020, bracket racers certainly proved that. Events across the country popped up even as the COVID-19 crisis threatened to stamp out all activity, including two Jim Harrington Bracket Nationals events that served race-hungry drivers in the Northeast.

In 2007, racers Anthony Fetch and Jeff "JP" Pasquariello ,Jr. partnered to put together a big dollar bracket race for the Northeast region at Cecil County Dragway. It turned into an annual event, and in honor of a fallen friend and mentor, the race was rechristened as the Jim Harrington Bracket Nationals in 2010.

"Both of us were close with Jim Harrington; he was a great friend of JP's father, and I grew up watching Jim when he came back to Raceway Park," said Fetch of Northeast racing icon Harrington, who passed away in 2009.

"He was one of the biggest personalities and best racers in this area, and now two weekends a year we get to race in his memory."

The 2021 Harrington will feature a larger payout and more chances to win, with two 3-day race weekends paying $20,000 for top bulb both Friday and Sunday, bookending the $50,000 main event on Saturday.

Pro / No Box will return as its own class with $5,000 to win Saturday and Sunday, and deep staging will be honored. Saturday night action will include the Super 64 Car Shootout along with a Pro No Box Gamblers race, time permitting.

"I have known Jim for most of my life, and throughout that time, he has been a father figure to me," said JP Jr. on the JPFetch Promotions website. "I wanted to name this race after him to pay tribute to what Jim has done for the sport of drag racing, and for what he has meant to me. I want to thank Tracey Harrington for giving us her blessings to rename the race after Jimmy. We are proud to call this race, 'The Jim Harrington Bracket Nationals.' "

The Jim Harrington Bracket Nationals will take place July 16-18 and September 24-26 at Cecil County Dragway in Maryland.
