Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Final Session

MADISON, Ill. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, ninth annual Mopar Express Lane NHRA Midwest Nationals presented by Pennzoil listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Daniel Wilkerson Runs 4.389/197.48, Now #1
Right Lane: Dale Creasy Jr. Runs 15.785/67.72, Now #2

Weather conditions: air temperature 58 degrees, relative humidity 71 percent, barometer 30.09 inches, track temperature 64 degrees.

Wilkerson started to lose traction on the top end and clicked it off.

Creasy with problems getting the car to fire, he does a short burnout. He is up in smoke as soon as he hits the throttle and clicks it off.

Left Lane: Bob Bode Runs 8.440/85.95, Now #3
Right Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 7.372/87.39, Now #2

Bode rattled the tires early and clicked it off.

Haddock also rattled the tires and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Jim Campbell No Time, Now #6
Right Lane: Blake Alexander Runs 10.593/73.12, Now #4

The word was just announced this would be the only qualifying session of the day. Pro Stock cars and Pro Stock Motorcycle will qualify off of points.

Campbell with severe tire shake right at the hit and then came to a stop on the track.

Alexander shook right at the hit and pedaled it, lost traction again and pedaled it one more time. He was making a move toward the centerline before he clicked it off.

Left Lane: Paul Lee Runs 3.913/326.95, Now #1
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 3.949/329.58, Now #2

Lee launched hard and kept it hitting on all eight to go to the number one spot. Paul Lee's incremental times: 60ft-0.872 sec., 330ft-2.246, 660ft-3.169/281.42 mph.

Pedregon was right there with him to go to the number two spot. Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.880 sec., 330ft-2.275, 660ft-3.206/279.15 mph.

Left Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 3.929/288.21, Now #2
Right Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 5.801/184.98, Now #5

DeJoria was on a great looking pass until on the top end when it slowed. She goes to the number two spot. Alexis DeJoria's incremental times: 60ft-0.878 sec., 330ft-2.229, 660ft-3.146/281.42 mph.

Todd starts to lose traction and he pedals it, the car starts to have a wacky flame pattern before he clicks it off.

Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 11.856/79.57, Now #10
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 7.985/149.96, Now #7

They both lose traction right at the hit.

Tasca III pedals it one time and was back up in smoke before he clicked it off.

Wilkerson lost traction right at the hit and pedaled it a couple times before he clicked it off.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 12.851/71.93, Now #12
Right Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 7.220/118.97, Now #6

They both lost traction right at the it.

Capps didn't get back on the throttle and coasted on down the track.

Johnson Jr. lost traction right at the hit and then got back on the throttle around 400 feet, but just idled it on down the track.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 5.105/148.15, Now #6
Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.750/185.03, Now #5

Hagan launched hard, but then started to lose traction around 330 feet and clicked it off.

Beckman started to lose traction early and pedaled it a couple times before he clicked it off.

Paul Lee holds on to the number one spot for the first time in his career.
