Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Final Session

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Notes from final, round 3 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 36th annual NHRA Arizona Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Jim Maroney No Time, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.018/266.11, Was #13

Weather conditions: air temperature 74 degrees, relative humidity 42 percent, barometer 29.69 inches, adjusted altitude 2,983 feet, track temperature 80 degrees.

Maroney did the burnout and was then shut off. The word from the starting line was a broke clutch arm.

Left Lane: Scott Palmer Runs 6.572/100.47, Now #11; Best prior run: 3.778/322.96, Was #11
Right Lane: Doug Foley Runs 3.878/311.13, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.154/230.37, Was #16

Palmer starts to haze the tires early and clicks it off.

Foley started to have problems on the top end, he has a quick fire, but still gets off the bump spot. Doug Foley's incremental times: 60ft-0.861 sec., 330ft-2.196, 660ft-3.109/277.94 mph.

Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 4.699/130.76, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.772/319.14, Was #9
Right Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 3.733/325.45, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.153/204.23, Was #16

Millican shook right at the hit and chutes deployed just past 330 feet.

Langdon kept it hooked up and hitting on all eight to get off the bump spot and into the top half of the show. Shawn Langdon's incremental times: 60ft-0.839 sec., 330ft-2.128, 660ft-2.994/289.69 mph. Langdon runs his fastest pass of the season.

Left Lane: Shawn Reed Runs 7.346/91.38, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.749/325.92, Was #8
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 8.680/79.75, Now #13; Best prior run: 3.786/324.44, Was #13

Reed overpowers the track early and clicks it off.

Brown is up in smoke right at the hit and clicks it off.

Left Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 6.540/93.32, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.740/323.50, Was #7
Right Lane: Austin Prock Runs 5.393/122.88, Now #11; Best prior run: 3.775/314.24, Was #11

Kalitta was hazing the tires by 330 feet and clicked it off.

Prock is up in smoke early and clicks it off.

Left Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 4.024/225.82, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.696/326.79, Was #4
Right Lane: Justin Ashley Runs 3.707/322.81, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.758/315.64, Was #9

McMillen was on a good looking pass and then started mixing up cylinders and around the 1/8 mile mark the engine went silent.

Ashley kept it hooked up and hitting on all eight and he runs his career quickest pass to move into the top half of the show. Justin Ashley's incremental times: 60ft-0.830 sec., 330ft-2.106, 660ft-2.969/291.45 mph.

Left Lane: Brittany Force Runs 3.670/327.11, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.680/331.12, Was #2
Right Lane: Billy Torrence Runs 3.714/328.14, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.724/325.30, Was #6

Force launched hard and kept it hooked up, hitting on all eight to go to the number one spot. Brittany Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.818 sec., 330ft-2.089, 660ft-2.944/296.96 mph.

Torrence with a real nice pass, hooked up all the way down the track with his quickest pass of the weekend. He will stay in the number six spot. Billy Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.849 sec., 330ft-2.125, 660ft-2.984/293.54 mph.

Left Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 6.259/97.52, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.671/326.48, Was #2
Right Lane: Leah Pruett Runs 6.827/93.54, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.680/328.06, Was #3

Torrence is up in smoke by 200 feet and clicked it off.

Pruett is also up in smoke early and clicks it off.

Force holds on for the number one spot for the 20th time in her career and the second time in as many events this season.
