Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #1

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 36th annual NHRA Arizona Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: Terry Totten Runs 4.126/269.08, Now #1

Weather conditions: air temperature 79 degrees, relative humidity 29 percent, barometer 28.84 inches, adjusted altitude 3,025 feet, track temperature 99 degrees.

Totten is straight down the groove with a clean pass to start the season. Terry Totten's incremental times: 60ft-0.881 sec., 330ft-2.266, 660ft-3.267/250.37 mph.

Right Lane: Scott Palmer Runs 4.659/165.13, Now #2

Palmer had a cylinder out right at the hit and clicked it off before half track.

Left Lane: Billy Torrence Runs 3.745/324.36, Now #2
Right Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 3.743/316.38, Now #1

The Torrences with a new look this season. They are making their first passes in competition this season. They both launched hard and kept them hooked up to go to the number one and two spots. Billy Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.843 sec., 330ft-2.134, 660ft-3.009/290.38 mph.
Steve Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.830 sec., 330ft-2.124, 660ft-2.999/290.13 mph.

Right Lane: Jim Maroney Runs 4.018/266.11, Now #3

Maroney started to mix up cylinders around half track and the engine let go. The word from the top end is there is oil on the track. Jim Maroney was charged with an oildown, #2 for the season. That will cost 10 points.

Left Lane: Antron Brown Runs 11.189/66.17, Now #7
Right Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 5.903/104.28, Now #6

Brown is up in smoke right at the hit and clicked it off.

McMillen started to lose traction around 330 feet and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 5.993/103.35, Now #8
Right Lane: Shawn Reed Runs 3.795/318.62, Now #3

Langdon started to haze the tires around 150 feet and clicked it off.

Reed launched hard and kept it hooked up to go to the number three spot right behind the Torrences. Shawn Reed's incremental times: 60ft-0.841 sec., 330ft-2.163, 660ft-3.052/286.32 mph.

Left Lane: Justin Ashley Runs 5.039/137.39, Now #8
Right Lane: Clay Millican Runs 4.841/144.74, Now #7

Ashley is up in smoke early and clicked it off.

Millican lost traction right after Ashley and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Leah Pruett Runs 4.096/214.96, Now #6
Right Lane: Brittany Force Runs 3.707/328.14, Now #1

Pruett was dropping cylinders on the right side right at the hit and clicked it off.

Force is running the yellow and blue colors of Flav-R-Pac look this weekend. She launched hard and kept it hitting on all eight all the way down the track to go to the number one spot. Brittany Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.835 sec., 330ft-2.110, 660ft-2.979/292.84 mph.

Left Lane: Austin Prock Runs 11.466/79.67, Now #15
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 3.740/323.50, Now #2

Number one and two in points...

Prock lost traction right at the hit and clicked it off.

Kalitta kept it hooked up and was straight down the groove with a real nice pass to go to the number two spot. Doug Kalitta's incremental times: 60ft-0.837 sec., 330ft-2.132, 660ft-3.004/291.51 mph.
