Competition Eliminator Qualifying Notes, Final Session

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Notes from final, round 2 qualifying in Competition Eliminator at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 36th annual Magic Dry Organic Absorbent NHRA Arizona Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed this round, amount over/under index this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time, speed & over/under Index, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Ryan Warter Runs 12.484/67.23/3.204, Now #17; F/SM Index: 9.28, Prior Best: 11.431/74.44/2.151, Was #16
Right Lane: Joe Mozeris Runs 7.628/133.79/0.148, Now #14; B/ED Index: 7.48, Prior Best: 11.509/73.13/4.029, Was #17

12:27 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 76 degrees, relative humidity 32 percent, barometer 28.88 inches, adjusted altitude 2,732 feet, track temperature 92 degrees.

Doug Lambeck is number one at -0.589 and Field not filled, no bump spot.

Both drivers struggled in session one and Warter's problems continue, as he is off and on the throttle early and then has the nose go down near the 330 lights.

Mozeris gets further, but is coasting early too.

Right Lane: Alan Freese Runs 8.895/152.00/-0.365, Now #11; F/SMA Index: 9.26, Prior Best: 8.867/152.38/-0.393, Was #11

Nice wheels up leave for Freese and he runs close to his prior best to stay #11 for now.

Hodges has the RPM's go to high C in the burnout and is pushed away.

Right Lane: Tony Mandella Runs 7.886/177.39/-0.574, Now #2; A/SMA Index: 8.46, Prior Best: 7.873/170.82/-0.587, Was #2

Chomiski leaves with a two light.

Both drivers make strong passes, but can't improve.

Left Lane: John Edwards Runs 7.382/185.13/-0.558, Now #3; C/AA Index: 7.94, Prior Best: 9.226/159.51/1.286, Was #16
Right Lane: Ralph Van Paepeghem Runs 7.306/178.97/-0.504, Now #7; A/EA Index: 7.81, Prior Best: 7.356/178.80/-0.454, Was #9

Both drives find a better tune up.

Edwards is best with a big 13 position improvement.

Van Paepeghem finds two positions too.

Jones breaks on the burnout and is pushed back behind the line.

Carter gets the power to the ground this time and power right on up to the new top spot on a strong pass.

Right Lane: Don Bevers Runs 7.954/168.89/-0.576, Now #4; A/SMA Index: 8.53, Prior Best: 8.031/168.49/-0.499, Was #9

WOW!!

Bell gets the front wheels of his Barracuda way up in the air at the green and then drives dead right cross the center line when it comes back down. He is right behind Bevers at that point and has to whoa it down to get back into his lane.

Bevers Gets a full pass and moves up five spots to number five.

Left Lane: Will Hatcher Runs 6.673/202.00/-0.417, Now #10; A/DA Index: 7.09, Prior Best: 6.615/204.82/-0.475, Was #10
Right Lane: Doug Lambeck Runs 8.505/134.32/-0.425, Now #2; D/SMA Index: 8.93, Prior Best: 8.341/159.68/-0.589, Was #2

Two clean passes and no improvements.

Right Lane: Bill Kent Runs 6.674/199.43/-0.596, Now #2; B/D Index: 7.27, Prior Best: 6.762/200.56/-0.508, Was #7

Kent pick up a bunch of ET, but is slower than earlier. He moves five spots up the ladder.

Right Lane: Bob Sherwood Runs 8.500/157.65/0.050, Now #15; A/SM Index: 8.45, Prior Best: 8.118/163.57/-0.332, Was #15

Sherwood's Cobalt isn't real happy off the line and he slows to stay #15.

12:45 p.m. Dean Carter is number one at -0.635 and Field not filled, no bump spot.
