Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #2

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 55th annual Auto Club NHRA Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 6.752/97.96, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.056/88.86, Was #17
Right Lane: Clay Millican Runs 6.960/85.81, Now #18; Best prior run: 7.351/83.83, Was #18

Weather conditions: air temperature 73 degrees, relative humidity 49 percent, barometer 28.86 inches, adjusted altitude 2,720 feet, track temperature 90 degrees.

They are both up in smoke about the same time.

Left Lane: Leah Pritchett Runs 3.694/322.88, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.492/100.39, Was #14
Right Lane: Scott Palmer Runs 3.775/328.14, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.716/102.91, Was #16

Pritchett launched hard and kept it hooked up to go to the number one spot. Leah Pritchett's incremental times: 60ft-0.842 sec., 330ft-2.100, 660ft-2.957/293.86 mph.

Palmer is straight down the groove to get off the bump and into the top half of the show. Scott Palmer's incremental times: 60ft-0.845 sec., 330ft-2.153, 660ft-3.041/287.96 mph.

Left Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 10.023/57.13, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.321/97.67, Was #15
Right Lane: Austin Prock Runs 6.995/90.07, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.636/91.89, Was #16

McClenathan is up in smoke right at the hit and clicks it off.

Prock lost traction early and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Shawn Reed Runs 3.966/292.46, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.622/119.06, Was #14
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 3.729/330.07, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.007/144.60, Was #12

Reed clicks it off early but goes to the number nine spot. Shawn Reed's incremental times: 60ft-0.835 sec., 330ft-2.156, 660ft-3.137/255.24 mph.

Brown kept the candles lit and hooked up to go to the number five spot. Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.836 sec., 330ft-2.123, 660ft-2.999/291.70 mph.

Left Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 3.903/325.61, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.163/133.96, Was #14
Right Lane: Jim Maroney Runs 8.365/75.09, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.367/190.81, Was #12

Kalitta started to lose traction right at the hit and pedaled it. He got it to hook up and move into the top half of the show. Doug Kalitta's incremental times: 60ft-0.842 sec., 330ft-2.239, 660ft-3.161/282.48 mph.

Maroney was shooting out sparklers from the clutch area and clicked it off early.

Left Lane: Richie Crampton Runs 3.751/325.45, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.801/154.00, Was #14
Right Lane: Jordan Vandergriff Runs 3.724/323.81, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.142/206.61, Was #12

This was a great side-by-side drag race.

Crampton was straight down the groove to move into the top half of the show. Richie Crampton's incremental times: 60ft-0.833 sec., 330ft-2.133, 660ft-3.012/287.60 mph.

Vandergriff kept it hitting on all eight and hooked up to go to the number four spot. Jordan Vandergriff's incremental times: 60ft-0.836 sec., 330ft-2.119, 660ft-2.988/291.45 mph.

Left Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 6.783/91.29, Now #13; Best prior run: 3.985/223.95, Was #13
Right Lane: Justin Ashley Runs 4.283/197.62, Now #9; Best prior run: 3.777/317.49, Was #9

Torrence overpowered to the track and clicked it off.

Ashley started to lose traction and clicked it off.

Right Lane: Brittany Force Runs 6.640/97.64, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.726/331.69, Was #5

Force was up in smoke by 330 feet and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Mike Salinas Runs 3.703/330.55, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.699/327.11, Was #2
Right Lane: Billy Torrence Runs 6.115/100.46, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.708/330.63, Was #3

Salinas with another great pass, he will not improve, but makes a great pass. The second quickest of the session and he will stay in the number two spot. Mike Salinas' incremental times: 60ft-0.827 sec., 330ft-2.104, 660ft-2.976/291.89 mph.

Torrence started to smoke the tires and clicked it off.
