POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 55th annual Auto Club NHRA Finals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Clontz had problems in session one, but puts up a number this time.

Kelly Clontz's incremental times: 60ft-1.092 sec., 330ft-2.933, 660ft-4.488/157.82 mph, 1,000ft-5.845.

Katie Sullivan is now on the bump spot at 8.788. She makes a better pass this time and gets further into the field.

Salinas is coasting right before the 660 lights and moves down to the bump spot..

Katie Sullivan's incremental times: 60ft-1.070 sec., 330ft-2.906, 660ft-4.477/155.40 mph, 1,000ft-5.856.

Left Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 6.834/195.00, Now #2; Best prior run: 8.719/98.04, Was #17

Much better pass for Stoffer this time. Clean from start to finish and a 15 position move up to number two!

Karen Stoffer's incremental times: 60ft-1.049 sec., 330ft-2.836, 660ft-4.355/161.27 mph, 1,000ft-5.687.

Left Lane: Michael Ray Runs 7.023/191.02, Now #14; Best prior run: 7.056/190.86, Was #15
Right Lane: Angie Smith Runs 7.010/194.13, Now #12; Best prior run: 7.028/193.24, Was #13

Freddie Camarena is on the bump spot at 7.061.

Two strong passes and both bikes pick up a little.

Michael Ray's incremental times: 60ft-1.077 sec., 330ft-2.923, 660ft-4.484/157.04 mph, 1,000ft-5.850.
Angie Smith's incremental times: 60ft-1.106 sec., 330ft-2.959, 660ft-4.507/158.33 mph, 1,000ft-5.856.

Left Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 6.894/195.22, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.940/192.77, Was #11
Right Lane: Hector Arana Runs 6.913/196.47, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.938/195.70, Was #10

They leave together and run right together to right after the 330 lights, where Krawiec starts to pull steadily ahead to move up into the top half of the field.

Eddie Krawiec's incremental times: 60ft-1.075 sec., 330ft-2.884, 660ft-4.413/160.40 mph, 1,000ft-5.748.
Hector Arana's incremental times: 60ft-1.073 sec., 330ft-2.894, 660ft-4.431/159.74 mph, 1,000ft-5.770.

Left Lane: Ryan Oehler Runs 10.788/82.34, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.937/196.64, Was #11
Right Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 6.942/190.57, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.897/193.74, Was #9

Oehler's bike bogged bad at the green and he slows.

Clean pass for Johnson, but just a little off his prior pace.

Steve Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-1.091 sec., 330ft-2.902, 660ft-4.438/159.53 mph, 1,000ft-5.783.

Left Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 6.845/196.22, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.888/194.80, Was #7
Right Lane: Hector Arana Jr Runs 6.905/196.76, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.867/196.36, Was #4

Much better pass for Hines into the top four.

Arana has the bike over towards the center line down track and it costs him some ET and a spot on the ladder.

Andrew Hines' incremental times: 60ft-1.069 sec., 330ft-2.859, 660ft-4.379/161.11 mph, 1,000ft-5.706.
Hector Arana Jr's incremental times: 60ft-1.083 sec., 330ft-2.902, 660ft-4.432/160.50 mph, 1,000ft-5.765.

Left Lane: Angelle Sampey Runs 10.563/78.01, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.882/194.02, Was #7
Right Lane: Jerry Savoie Runs 6.861/194.46, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.837/193.35, Was #3

Savoie has great early numbers, but can't finish quicker.

Sampey's Harley sounded sour after a so-so leave and she lifts.

Jerry Savoie's incremental times: 60ft-1.045 sec., 330ft-2.840, 660ft-4.370/159.68 mph, 1,000ft-5.712.

Left Lane: Scotty Pollacheck Runs 8.520/112.50, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.873/196.39, Was #6
Right Lane: Matt Smith Runs 6.835/198.32, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.815/197.33, Was #1

Pollacheck's bike is lazy off the line and he is off the throttle early.

A faster, but not quicker pass for Smith to stay number one. Looked like a little smoke from the bike after the finish line.

Matt Smith's incremental times: 60ft-1.070 sec., 330ft-2.870, 660ft-4.387/161.96 mph, 1,000ft-5.707.

2:40 p.m. Freddie Camarena is on the bump spot at 7.061.
