Pro Stock Motorcycle Qualifying Notes, Final Session

LAS VEGAS - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 19th annual Dodge NHRA Nationals presented by Pennzoil listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Andie Rawlings Runs 8.310/114.32, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.391/175.78, Was #19

3:55 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 76 degrees, relative humidity 11 percent, barometer 27.97 inches, adjusted altitude 3,713 feet, track temperature 97 degrees.

Rawlings drifts to the left, gets close to the centerline and has to click it off about 800 feet out.

Left Lane: Eiji Kawakami Runs 7.197/186.61, Now #18; Best prior run: 7.180/188.20, Was #18
Right Lane: Katie Sullivan Runs 7.164/183.84, Now #16; Best prior run: 7.049/191.78, Was #16

Kawakami makes a clean pass but he can't improve and will not make the show. Sullivan drifted to the left early but was able to stay on the throttle. She doesn't improve and stays on the bump spot.

Left Lane: Jianna Salinas Runs 7.120/187.81, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.075/188.57, Was #17
Right Lane: Ron Tornow Runs 7.104/186.36, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.048/182.92, Was #15

Salinas makes a clean pass but doesn't improve and will not make the show. Tornow doesn't improve but is in the show in the 15th spot.

Left Lane: Hector Arana Jr Runs 6.930/193.24, Now #10; Best prior run: 7.003/193.54, Was #14
Right Lane: Kelly Clontz Runs 7.094/189.60, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.991/190.86, Was #13

Arana finally makes a good pass and gets in the 6's. He moves up to the tenth spot. Clontz slows and will stay in the 14th spot.

Left Lane: Hector Arana Runs 6.933/194.04, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.976/193.88, Was #13
Right Lane: Ryan Oehler Runs 6.964/195.42, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.942/194.55, Was #11

Arana makes his quickest pass of the weekend and he moves up to the 11th spot. Oehler makes a decent pass but doesn't improve. He can't get the bike stopped and ends up going in the sand.

Left Lane: Melissa Surber Runs 6.979/190.27, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.947/190.35, Was #13
Right Lane: Angelle Sampey Runs 7.048/190.70, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.877/193.90, Was #7

Surber makes a good pass but doesn't improve. Sampey slows from her earlier attempt and will stay in the seventh spot.

Left Lane: Angie Smith Runs 6.930/192.80, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.929/192.77, Was #9
Right Lane: Scotty Pollacheck Runs 6.915/192.74, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.877/194.44, Was #6

Smith makes a good pass, just a tick slower than her earlier run, and she stays in the ninth spot. Pollacheck makes the quickest pass of the round so far but doesn't improve.

Left Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 6.893/195.00, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.896/195.22, Was #8
Right Lane: Jerry Savoie Runs 6.911/193.07, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.870/193.93, Was #5

Stoffer makes an impressive pass for the conditions, improves a little, but stays in the eighth spot. Savoie slows from his previous attempts.

Karen Stoffer's incremental times: 60ft-1.067 sec., 330ft-2.875, 660ft-4.408/159.64 mph, 1,000ft-5.747.

Left Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 6.882/195.45, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.864/195.11, Was #3
Right Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 6.923/194.21, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.866/194.63, Was #4

Krawiec makes the quickest pass of the round so far but he doesn't improve. Hines slows from his earlier attempt and stays in the fourth spot.

Left Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 6.848/194.18, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.851/192.03, Was #2
Right Lane: Matt Smith Runs 6.840/196.93, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.842/198.64, Was #1

A great side-by-side to end this session, both right down the groove with the quickest runs of the round. Smith improves a little on his number one spot and setting the track record again. Johnson improves a little and stays in the second spot.

Steve Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-1.051 sec., 330ft-2.844, 660ft-4.367/160.61 mph, 1,000ft-5.700.

Matt Smith's incremental times: 60ft-1.053 sec., 330ft-2.851, 660ft-4.376/160.35 mph, 1,000ft-5.705.

This is Smith's sixth number one this season and the 37th of his career.
