Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #3

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 19th annual Dodge NHRA Nationals presented by Pennzoil listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Steven Densham Runs 4.028/313.29, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.241/110.66, Was #16

2:08 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 75 degrees, relative humidity 12 percent, barometer 28.00 inches, adjusted altitude 3,520 feet, track temperature 101 degrees.

Densham goes down with a good, clean pass and moves up to the 14th spot.

Steven Densham's incremental times: 60ft-0.892 sec., 330ft-2.295, 660ft-3.251/268.76 mph.

Left Lane: Jim Campbell Runs 4.070/299.00, Now #15; Best prior run: 4.413/206.10, Was #16
Right Lane: Jonnie Lindberg Runs 6.944/98.56, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.013/286.62, Was #13

Campbell goes down the groove with a good pass and he moves up a spot in the order. Lindberg gets about 300 feet out and the candles go out, not sure why.

Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 3.945/317.87, Now #12; Best prior run: 3.920/329.10, Was #12
Right Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 4.464/199.94, Now #17; Best prior run: 8.177/82.78, Was #17

Pedregon makes a clean straight pass but he doesn't improve. Arend looked like he was on a decent pass but the candles went out about 500 feet out, not sure why.

Left Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 3.928/306.95, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.907/331.61, Was #10

Langdon hits the throttle and starts drifting to the left. He never really gets close to the wall but it looks like he may have been off the throttle a little early.

Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 3.897/329.67, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.876/332.84, Was #6
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.166/225.30, Now #11; Best prior run: 3.915/330.31, Was #11

Hight goes down the groove with another good, consistent pass. He doesn't improve but has made three good runs. Hagan was on a good pass but looked like he may have started hazing the tires about 600 feet out and he had to back off of the throttle.

Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.874 sec., 330ft-2.247, 660ft-3.158/282.54 mph.

Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.871 sec., 330ft-2.232, 660ft-3.182/252.05 mph.

Left Lane: Paul Lee Runs 4.074/263.92, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.881/332.67, Was #8
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 3.986/323.35, Now #9; Best prior run: 3.902/329.67, Was #9

Lee was on a decent pass but the car nosed over about 800 feet out. Capps doesn't improve but makes a good, clean pass.

Left Lane: John Force Runs 3.853/330.72, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.866/329.02, Was #4
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 3.890/327.11, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.880/326.56, Was #7

A good side-by-side here, both right down the groove with good, clean passes. Force sets the track ET record and goes to the top of the order. Wilkerson makes a good pass but doesn't improve.

John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.863 sec., 330ft-2.220, 660ft-3.120/285.71 mph.
Tim Wilkerson's incremental times: 60ft-0.886 sec., 330ft-2.249, 660ft-3.153/283.91 mph.

Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 3.911/328.62, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.862/332.02, Was #4
Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 3.957/323.04, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.872/335.90, Was #5

Another good side-by-side but neither driver improves.

Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.877 sec., 330ft-2.260, 660ft-3.174/283.01 mph.
Jack Beckman's incremental times: 60ft-0.886 sec., 330ft-2.267, 660ft-3.205/276.24 mph.

Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 3.902/327.19, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.856/333.58, Was #2
Right Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 3.911/323.04, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.858/327.35, Was #3

Todd makes a clean, straight pass but doesn't improve. Johnson goes down the groove with qa good pass and he doesn't improve.

J.R. Todd's incremental times: 60ft-0.879 sec., 330ft-2.245, 660ft-3.158/281.95 mph.
Tommy Johnson Jr.'s incremental times: 60ft-0.871 sec., 330ft-2.248, 660ft-3.166/281.95 mph.
