LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 19th annual Dodge NHRA Nationals presented by Pennzoil listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Pat Dakin Runs 5.151/137.74, Now #19; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Shawn Reed Runs 3.709/326.71, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.736/321.04, Was #8

Weather conditions: air temperature 75 degrees, relative humidity 15 percent, barometer 28.04 inches, adjusted altitude 3,563 feet, track temperature 102 degrees.

Dakin is driving Brandon Welch's car doing a check out for the team this weekend. Dakin dropped a cylinder and clicked it off.

Reed launched hard and kept it hooked up to move up the ladder a couple spots. Shawn Reed's incremental times: 60ft-0.831 sec., 330ft-2.103, 660ft-2.975/289.57 mph.

Left Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 3.720/330.72, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.765/320.05, Was #10
Right Lane: Jim Maroney Runs 8.517/69.41, Now #20; Best prior run: 11.078/66.14, Was #21

Torrence is straight down the groove with his quickest of the weekend to move into the top half of the field. Steve Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.838 sec., 330ft-2.118, 660ft-2.990/291.01 mph.

Maroney lost traction right at the hit and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Rob Passey Runs 8.797/60.58, Now #21; Best prior run: 9.116/84.36, Was #21
Right Lane: Clay Millican Runs 4.089/215.24, Now #11; Best prior run: 3.811/322.04, Was #11

Passey was dropping cylinders right at the hit and then the engine let go with a quick fireball.

Millican was on a good pass until just past half track when it started to haze the tires and he clicked it off.

Left Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 3.701/326.32, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.714/326.00, Was #7
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 3.726/325.22, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.888/250.41, Was #12

McMillen kept it hooked up and hitting on all eight to make his quickest pass of the weekend to move up the ladder a couple spots. Terry McMillen's incremental times: 60ft-0.841 sec., 330ft-2.107, 660ft-2.969/293.09 mph.

Brown was straight down the groove with his quickest pass of the weekend to move up the ladder a couple spots. Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.846 sec., 330ft-2.133, 660ft-2.994/293.47 mph.

Left Lane: Justin Ashley Runs 4.293/193.21, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.136/213.98, Was #17
Right Lane: Chris Karamesines Runs 4.784/157.28, Now #18; Best prior run: 4.323/200.29, Was #18

Ashley started to haze the tires and clicked it off, he is down to one pass to get in the show.

Karamesines started to lose traction and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 4.036/249.44, Now #15; Best prior run: 4.110/278.40, Was #15
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 3.830/303.71, Now #11; Best prior run: 3.751/329.67, Was #11

McClenathan clicks it off early, but still improves...he will stay in the number 15 spot.

Kalitta slowed on the top end and will not improve.

Left Lane: Richie Crampton Runs 4.787/153.00, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.709/327.03, Was #6
Right Lane: Scott Palmer Runs 3.755/312.35, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.112/226.32, Was #16

Crampton started to lose traction and clicked it off.

Palmer kept it hooked up to make his quickest pass of the weekend to move off the bump spot. Scott Palmer's incremental times: 60ft-0.840 sec., 330ft-2.123, 660ft-3.007/286.92 mph.

Left Lane: Mike Salinas Runs 4.156/198.64, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.682/329.34, Was #4
Right Lane: Troy Buff Runs 4.038/233.36, Now #15; Best prior run: 3.945/261.88, Was #15

Salinas started to lose traction and clicked it off.

Buff started to haze the tires and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Leah Pritchett Runs 4.319/182.75, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.681/328.38, Was #3
Right Lane: Austin Prock Runs 7.966/73.39, Now #9; Best prior run: 3.726/330.96, Was #9

Pritchett started to haze the tires on the top end and clicked it off.

Prock was up in smoke early and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Brittany Force Runs 3.782/273.88, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.659/338.17, Was #1
Right Lane: Billy Torrence Runs 3.713/322.27, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.662/332.34, Was #2

Force was on a good pass and then she started to haze the tires and clicked it off. Brittany Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.847 sec., 330ft-2.118, 660ft-2.982/293.92 mph.

Torrence launched hard and kept it hooked up to make the third quickest pass of the session. Billy Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.828 sec., 330ft-2.106, 660ft-2.976/290.88 mph.
