Pro Stock Motorcycle Qualifying Notes, Session #3

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 19th annual Dodge NHRA Nationals presented by Pennzoil listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Katie Sullivan Runs 7.168/184.17, Now #16; Best prior run: 7.049/191.78, Was #16

1:00 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 75 degrees, relative humidity 15 percent, barometer 28.04 inches, adjusted altitude 3,563 feet, track temperature 102 degrees.

Sullivan is driving James Surber's bike. She makes a move to the right, leans to get it back in the groove and can't improve on her time.

Left Lane: Andie Rawlings Runs 7.391/175.78, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.926/129.27, Was #19
Right Lane: Eiji Kawakami Runs 7.233/187.50, Now #18; Best prior run: 7.180/188.20, Was #18

Rawlings go down with a clean pass and improves but not enough to get in the show. Kawakami doesn't improve.

Left Lane: Ron Tornow Runs 7.087/186.51, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.048/182.92, Was #15
Right Lane: Jianna Salinas Runs 7.409/147.25, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.075/188.57, Was #17

Tornow drifts toward the centerline early in the run. He is able to keep it off the line but doesn't improve. Salinas drifts toward the centerline and is off of the throttle early.

Left Lane: Kelly Clontz Runs 7.043/0.00, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.991/190.86, Was #11
Right Lane: Hector Arana Jr Runs 7.003/193.54, Now #13; Best prior run: 7.043/192.00, Was #14

Clontz makes a clean pass but doesn't improve. Arana makes his quickest pass of the weekend and is able to move up a spot in the order.

Left Lane: Angelle Sampey Runs 6.893/194.10, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.877/193.90, Was #3
Right Lane: Hector Arana Runs 6.976/193.88, Now #11; Best prior run: 7.029/193.74, Was #14

Sampey makes a clean, straight pass but doesn't improve. Arana makes his quickest pass of the weekend and moves up to the 11th spot for now.

Left Lane: Ryan Oehler Runs 7.014/194.94, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.942/194.55, Was #9
Right Lane: Melissa Surber Runs 6.947/190.35, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.991/189.66, Was #13

Oehler is a little sluggish off of the line, a 1.112 sixty foot time, and he doesn't improve. Surber goes down the groove with her quickest pass of the weekend and she moves up to the tenth spot.

Left Lane: Scotty Pollacheck Runs 6.877/194.44, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.924/194.16, Was #8
Right Lane: Angie Smith Runs 6.929/192.77, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.949/191.38, Was #11

Pollacheck goes down the groove with the quickest pass of the round so far and he moves up to the third spot in the order. Smith improves and moves up to the ninth spot.

Scotty Pollacheck's incremental times: 60ft-1.058 sec., 330ft-2.861, 660ft-4.389/160.35 mph, 1,000ft-5.726.

Angie Smith's incremental times: 60ft-1.073 sec., 330ft-2.886, 660ft-4.422/159.31 mph, 1,000ft-5.770.

Left Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 6.866/194.63, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.907/194.86, Was #8
Right Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 6.864/195.11, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.880/196.07, Was #5

A good side-by-side, both right down the groove with their quickest passes of the weekend. Krawiec improves and moves up to the second spot. Hines moves up to the third spot for now.

Left Lane: Jerry Savoie Runs 6.870/193.93, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.894/194.46, Was #7
Right Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 12.029/66.55, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.896/195.22, Was #8

Savoie goes down the groove with his quickest pass of the weekend and he moves up to the fourth spot. Stoffer spun the tires at the hit, gets about 100 feet out and was out of power.

Jerry Savoie's incremental times: 60ft-1.052 sec., 330ft-2.859, 660ft-4.386/160.31 mph, 1,000ft-5.721.

Left Lane: Matt Smith Runs 6.909/197.86, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.842/198.64, Was #1
Right Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 6.851/192.03, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.872/193.93, Was #5

Smith got both ends of the track record yesterday and is still in the top spot. He is a little sluggish off the line on this pass and can't improve. Johnson goes right down the groove with the quickest pass of the round and he moves up to the second spot in the order to end this session.

Matt Smith's incremental times: 60ft-1.107 sec., 330ft-2.925, 660ft-4.450/160.75 mph, 1,000ft-5.777.

Steve Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-1.050 sec., 330ft-2.840, 660ft-4.364/160.23 mph, 1,000ft-5.699.
