Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #2

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 19th annual Dodge NHRA Nationals presented by Pennzoil listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Steven Densham Runs 6.241/110.66, Now #14; No Prior Run

4:36 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 73 degrees, relative humidity 7 percent, barometer 28.02 inches, adjusted altitude 3,397 feet, track temperature 88 degrees.

Densham is making his NHRA Funny Car debut. He won the Heritage Funny Car Championship in 2015.

Densham leaves the line and makes a move toward the centerline. He gets about 300 feet out and backs off of the throttle.

Left Lane: Jim Campbell Runs 4.413/206.10, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.472/102.91, Was #15
Right Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 8.177/82.78, Now #16; No Prior Run

Arend hits the throttle, gets about 100 feet out and the flames go out. Campbell was on a decent pass but he gets about 700 feet out and the car makes a quick move toward the wall and he has to abort the run. He still improves and moves up to the 14th spot.

Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 3.920/329.10, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.163/233.12, Was #13
Right Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 4.149/264.49, Now #14; No Prior Run

Pedregon goes down the groove with a good pass and he moves up to the 11th spot. Haddock got out of the groove late in the run and backed off of the throttle a little early.

Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.879 sec., 330ft-2.255, 660ft-3.177/280.31 mph.

Terry Haddock's incremental times: 60ft-0.914 sec., 330ft-2.328, 660ft-3.298/261.52 mph.

Left Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 3.907/331.61, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.921/329.02, Was #12
Right Lane: Jonnie Lindberg Runs 8.400/75.73, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.013/286.62, Was #13

Langdon goes down the groove with a good run and he moves up to the seventh spot for now. Lindberg rattled the tires at the hit, got about 200 feet out and clicked it off.

Shawn Langdon's incremental times: 60ft-0.877 sec., 330ft-2.256, 660ft-3.169/282.84 mph.

Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 3.862/332.02, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.910/327.82, Was #8
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 3.902/329.67, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.915/330.15, Was #11

Tasca goes down the groove with an impressive pass and he moves all the way to the top spot for now. Capps makes a good run but was falling behind all the way through the run.

Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.866 sec., 330ft-2.225, 660ft-3.131/285.65 mph.

Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.868 sec., 330ft-2.256, 660ft-3.165/283.73 mph.

Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 3.856/333.58, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.902/327.74, Was #8
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 3.921/326.00, Now #11; Best prior run: 3.915/330.31, Was #11

Todd goes right down the roove with a good pass, just missing the track record of 3.854, and he goes to the top of the order. Hagan makes a clean pass but doesn't improve.

J.R. Todd's incremental times: 60ft-0.877 sec., 330ft-2.226, 660ft-3.127/287.78 mph.

Left Lane: John Force Runs 3.866/329.02, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.886/317.87, Was #7
Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 3.872/335.90, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.914/328.62, Was #10

A good side-by-side, both right down the groove. Force improves and moves up to the third spot. Beckman sets the track speed record and moves up to the fourth spot.

John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.870 sec., 330ft-2.237, 660ft-3.134/286.98 mph.

Jack Beckman's incremental times: 60ft-0.884 sec., 330ft-2.241, 660ft-3.145/286.38 mph.

Left Lane: Paul Lee Runs 3.882/332.34, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.881/332.67, Was #8
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 3.896/327.59, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.880/326.56, Was #7

Lee goes gets a little out of the groove near the end of the run but he makes another good pass with a big speed. Wilkerson makes a clean, straight pass but he doesn't improve.

Paul Lee's incremental times: 60ft-0.873 sec., 330ft-2.242, 660ft-3.151/284.87 mph.

Tim Wilkerson's incremental times: 60ft-0.876 sec., 330ft-2.257, 660ft-3.160/284.62 mph.

Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 3.886/324.90, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.876/332.84, Was #5
Right Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 3.858/327.35, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.879/328.22, Was #6

Hight makes a clean pass but he slows from his earlier attempt. Johnson goes down the groove with a good pass and he moves up to the second spot, knocking Hight down a spot in the order.

Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.870 sec., 330ft-2.234, 660ft-3.140/282.48 mph.

Tommy Johnson Jr.'s incremental times: 60ft-0.861 sec., 330ft-2.221, 660ft-3.123/286.32 mph.
