LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 19th annual Dodge NHRA Nationals presented by Pennzoil listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run: Left Lane: Troy Buff Runs 4.585/168.28, Now #2 Right Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 4.110/278.40, Now #1 Buff is making his first appearance on the tour since this race last year. Buff started to haze the tires around half track and clicked it off. McClenathan was dropping cylinders early and never got it to clean up. Left Lane: Jim Maroney No Time, Now #4 Right Lane: Justin Ashley Runs 4.382/182.72, Now #2 Maroney was leaking fuel on the burnout. He is shut off and out of the car. Ashley shakes right at the hit and he clicks it off. Left Lane: Shawn Reed Runs 3.736/321.04, Now #1 Right Lane: Cameron Ferre Runs 3.942/299.33, Now #2 Reed launched hard and kept it hooked up to go the number one spot. Shawn Reed's incremental times: 60ft-0.841 sec., 330ft-2.127, 660ft-2.997/290.57 mph. Ferre makes a good pass, but then loses the an engine in the shut down area. The word is there is oil. Left Lane: Scott Palmer No Time, Now #8 Right Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 3.714/326.00, Now #1 Palmer had a fuel line come off after the burnout and is shut off. McMillen kept it hooked up and hitting on all eight to go to the number one spot. Terry McMillen's incremental times: 60ft-0.840 sec., 330ft-2.112, 660ft-2.982/291.01 mph. Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 3.811/322.04, Now #4 Right Lane: Richie Crampton Runs 3.738/327.27, Now #3 This was a good side-by-side drag race...
