LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 19th annual Dodge NHRA Nationals presented by Pennzoil listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Right Lane: Paul Lee Runs 3.881/332.67, Now #1

1:50 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 69 degrees, relative humidity 9 percent, barometer 28.05 inches, adjusted altitude 3,061 feet, track temperature 95 degrees.

Lee drifts a little to the left, then back to the right, then goes on through with a career best ET and speed to set the pace.

Paul Lee's incremental times: 60ft-0.866 sec., 330ft-2.230, 660ft-3.149/283.07 mph.

Left Lane: Jonnie Lindberg Runs 4.013/286.62, Now #2
Right Lane: Jim Campbell Runs 6.472/102.91, Now #3

Lindberg was on a good pass but looked like he put a cylinder out about 900 feet out and he slowed. Campbell had a cylinder out at the hit and he gave up on the run early.

Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.163/233.12, Now #3

Pedregon was on a good pass, then started drifting to the right. He gets about 700 feet out and backs off of the throttle.

Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 3.880/326.56, Now #1
Right Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 3.921/329.02, Now #3

A good side-by-side, both right down the groove with clean, straight passes. Wilkerson takes the top spot for now, Langdon gets in the third.

Tim Wilkerson's incremental times: 60ft-0.878 sec., 330ft-2.244, 660ft-3.143/285.41 mph.

Shawn Langdon's incremental times: 60ft-0.881 sec., 330ft-2.261, 660ft-3.179/281.19 mph.

Left Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 3.879/328.22, Now #1
Right Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 3.902/327.74, Now #4

Johnson goes down the groove with a good pass to get in the top spot for now. Todd makes a clean pass but was falling behind all the way through the run.

Tommy Johnson Jr.'s incremental times: 60ft-0.854 sec., 330ft-2.213, 660ft-3.138/280.95 mph.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 3.915/330.15, Now #6
Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 3.910/327.82, Now #5

Another good side-by-side, both right down the groove. Capps makes a clean pass and gets in the sixth spot for now, Tasca gets in the fifth.

Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.872 sec., 330ft-2.251, 660ft-3.168/282.07 mph.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 3.915/330.31, Now #7
Right Lane: John Force Runs 3.886/317.87, Now #4

Hagan drifts a little to the right late in the run, he steers it back to the center and makes a decent pass. Force was on a really good pass but put a cylinder out on the right side about 800 feet out and slowed.

Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.883 sec., 330ft-2.249, 660ft-3.175/279.85 mph.

John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.869 sec., 330ft-2.220, 660ft-3.132/279.67 mph.

Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 3.914/328.62, Now #8
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 3.876/332.84, Now #1

Hight goes down the groove with an impressive pass, quickest ET and top speed so far, and he takes the top spot to end this session. Beckman makes a good pass but was falling behind all the way through the run.

Jack Beckman's incremental times: 60ft-0.881 sec., 330ft-2.256, 660ft-3.175/282.30 mph.

Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.874 sec., 330ft-2.243, 660ft-3.146/284.75 mph.
