Top Alcohol Dragster Qualifying Notes, Session #1

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 19th annual Dodge NHRA Nationals presented by Pennzoil listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Nicholas Childers Runs 5.940/214.83, Now #2
Right Lane: James Stevens Runs 5.445/250.74, Now #1

Weather conditions: air temperature 61 degrees, relative humidity 10 percent, barometer 28.12 inches, adjusted altitude 2,467 feet, track temperature 75 degrees.

Childers is making his National event debut. He makes a clean pass to run a career quickest and fastest pass.

Stevens is straight down the groove with a nice pass to start the weekend. James Stevens' incremental times: 60ft-0.926 sec., 330ft-2.409, 660ft-3.581/209.98 mph, 1,000ft-4.585.

Right Lane: Mike Quayle Runs 13.193/92.38, Now #3

Burns was originally matched up with Quayle, they both started their cars. Then they were shut off because the top end was not cleared. Burns opted to pull out and go to the back of the line so he could refuel...Quayle chose to run. He is up in smoke right at the hit.

Left Lane: Fred Hanssen Runs 5.313/276.58, Now #1
Right Lane: Ron Anderson Runs 5.714/252.80, Now #3

Hanssen launched hard and kept it hooked up to make his quickest pass this season. This was also his career fastest. He goes to the top of the list. Fred Hanssen's incremental times: 60ft-0.957 sec., 330ft-2.408, 660ft-3.541/219.86 mph, 1,000ft-4.500.

Anderson with a clean pass.

Left Lane: Johnny Ahten Runs 5.451/250.92, Now #4
Right Lane: Kim Parker Runs 5.356/265.48, Now #2

Ahten is dropping cylinders, but stays with it to make a nice pass.

Parker is straight down the groove to go to the number two spot. Kim Parker's incremental times: 60ft-0.979 sec., 330ft-2.461, 660ft-3.570/224.92 mph, 1,000ft-4.521.

Left Lane: Mitch Myers Runs 5.562/268.44, Now #6
Right Lane: Casey Grisel Runs 5.261/275.22, Now #1

Myers with a good clean to start the weekend. Mitch Myers' incremental times: 60ft-0.995 sec., 330ft-2.570, 660ft-3.750/213.23 mph, 1,000ft-4.730.

Grisel launched hard and kept it hooked up to go to the number one spot. He runs his season quickest pass. He runs his career fastest. He goes to the number one spot. Casey Grisel's incremental times: 60ft-0.946 sec., 330ft-2.412, 660ft-3.515/226.70 mph, 1,000ft-4.452.

Left Lane: Shane Conway Runs 5.259/269.51, Now #1
Right Lane: Dan Mercier Runs 11.226/72.47, Now #10

Conway launched hard and kept it hooked up to go to the number one spot. Shane Conway's incremental times: 60ft-0.928 sec., 330ft-2.391, 660ft-3.492/226.09 mph, 1,000ft-4.437.

Mercier is up in smoke right at the hit.

Left Lane: Jasmine Salinas Runs 5.362/248.66, Now #6
Right Lane: Joey Severance Runs 5.162/277.37, Now #1

Salinas with a good clean pass to start the weekend.

Severance kept it hooked up and hitting on all eight to go to the number one spot. Joey Severance's incremental times: 60ft-0.885 sec., 330ft-2.298, 660ft-3.404/223.84 mph, 1,000ft-4.354.

Left Lane: Garrett Bateman Runs 5.881/228.81, Now #12
Right Lane: Jackie Fricke Runs 5.485/266.48, Now #9

Bateman is dropping cylinders right at the hit and clicked it off early.

Fricke with a good looking pass to start the weekend. Jackie Fricke's incremental times: 60ft-0.926 sec., 330ft-2.518, 660ft-3.684/218.94 mph, 1,000ft-4.650.

Left Lane: Duane Shields Runs 5.472/237.88, Now #10
Right Lane: Josh Hart Runs 5.293/275.11, Now #4

Shields with a clean pass...Duane Shields' incremental times: 60ft-0.924 sec., 330ft-2.432, 660ft-3.559/222.77 mph, 1,000ft-4.553.

Hart is straight down the groove. Josh Hart's incremental times: 60ft-0.946 sec., 330ft-2.431, 660ft-3.545/225.41 mph, 1,000ft-4.484.

Left Lane: Julie Nataas Runs 5.196/278.69, Now #2
Right Lane: Shawn Cowie Runs 5.218/277.43, Now #3

This was a great side-by-side drag race.

Nataas kept it hooked up and hitting on all eight to go to the number two spot. Julie Nataas' incremental times: 60ft-0.923 sec., 330ft-2.372, 660ft-3.467/228.46 mph, 1,000ft-4.397.

Cowie with a good looking pass, straight down the groove. Shawn Cowie's incremental times: 60ft-0.907 sec., 330ft-2.337, 660ft-3.456/221.92 mph, 1,000ft-4.408.

Left Lane: Mike Burns No Time, Now #20

Burns is back and is up in smoke right at the hit. He was coasting down the track and didn't get a time.
