ENNIS, Texas - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Competition Eliminator at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 34th annual AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, amount over/under index, and position in order following run, class and class index:

Left Lane: Justin Hutto Runs 6.809/194.16/-0.591, Now #1 B/DA Index: 7.40
Right Lane: Keith Hall Runs 6.850/192.22/-0.550, Now #2 D/SM Index: 7.40

2:17 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 73 degrees, relative humidity 40 percent, barometer 29.43 inches, adjusted altitude 2,022 feet, track temperature 88 degrees.

Hutto makes a nice pass out of the box to set the early pace. Hall makes a clean pass.

Right Lane: Rick Brown No Time, Now #4 F/AA Index: 8.54

Brown breaks and doesn't make a pass. Forrester makes a good pass to start his weekend.

Left Lane: Dennis Smiley Runs 6.884/201.70/-0.396, Now #5 A/ED Index: 7.28
Right Lane: Duane Robison Runs 7.349/186.05/-0.601, Now #1 C/A Index: 7.95

Robison goes down the groove with a good pass to take the pole for now. Smiley makes a clean pass but is a little off the pace.

Left Lane: Ashton Hudson Runs 8.417/159.64/-0.563, Now #5 E/SMA Index: 8.98
Right Lane: Scott Cashio Runs 7.808/173.83/-0.722, Now #1 F/SMA Index: 8.53

Cashio makes an impressive run to take the top spot for now. Hudson makes a good run to get in the fifth spot for now.

Left Lane: Leslie Carson Runs 20.022/39.89/10.652, Now #9 B/A Index: 9.37
Right Lane: Ed Federkeil Jr Runs 7.054/197.28/-0.566, Now #5 B/AA Index: 7.62

Carson rattles the tires at the hit, makes a move to the right and backs off the throttle. Federkeil makes a little move to the left at the hit but is able to stay on the throttle and make a decent pass.

Left Lane: John Clegg Runs 8.306/138.13/0.756, Now #9 CC/A Index: 7.55
Right Lane: Craig Bourgeois No Time, Now #12 A/ND Index: 7.42

Bourgeois breaks and does not make a pass. Clegg has problems and is off the throttle early.

Left Lane: Dick Maris Runs 6.910/192.33/-0.620, Now #2 C/DA Index: 7.53
Right Lane: Greg Schenck Runs 9.125/143.44/-0.435, Now #9 H/EA Index: 9.56

Maris makes a good pass and gets in the second spot for now. Schenck is a little off the pace.

Smiley goes down the groove with an impressive pass to take the top spot for now. Hall makes a decent pass to get in the seventh spot for now.

Engels makes a clean pass and gets in the third spot for now. Thomas makes a decent pass to get in the sixth spot.

Dodd makes a good pass to gets in the eighth spot for now. Kent is a little off the pace.

Massel has problems and is off the throttle early. Browell makes a good pass to get in the fifth spot for now.

Vincent makes a good pass and gets in the third spot for now. Benham has problems and is off the throttle early.
