CONCORD, N.C. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 12th annual NTK NHRA Carolina Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Shane Westerfield Runs 5.593/266.53, Now #7; Best prior run: 11.170/75.49, Was #17
Right Lane: Joshua Haskett No Time, Now #18; No Prior Run

9:08 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 73 degrees, relative humidity 53 percent, barometer 29.35 inches, adjusted altitude 2,213 feet, track temperature 87 degrees.

Westerfield was out of power early in the first round. This is Haskett's first attempt.

Westerfield goes right down the groove on this one, under power all the way through, and he gets in the show in the seventh spot for now. Haskett gets out of the groove, makes a move to the left and crosses the centerline.

Left Lane: Ulf Leanders Runs 5.485/261.37, Now #3; Best prior run: 8.881/100.97, Was #17
Right Lane: DJ Cox Jr. Runs 6.288/162.08, Now #13; Best prior run: 7.847/119.17, Was #14

Leanders leaves the line, makes a hard move to the left about 300 feet out, but he stays on the throttle and makes a good pass to move up to the third spot for now. Cox had problems past half track and was off the throttle early.

Left Lane: Bob Thomas Runs 6.402/198.03, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.426/193.99, Was #14
Right Lane: Aryan Rochon Runs 22.416/No Speed, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.809/117.40, Was #15

Rochon rattles the tires off the line, makes a move to the right and aborts the run. Thomas was on a decent pass but the car nosed over about 1000 feet out, not sure why.

Left Lane: Phil Esz Runs 14.580/103.22, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.739/259.96, Was #12
Right Lane: Kris Hool Runs 9.377/119.33, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.564/265.06, Was #7

Hool hits the throttle, rattles the tires, pedals once and gives up on the run. Not sure what happened with Esz. The tree comes down, his car moves a couple of inches and sits there. He gets on the throttle for a second and then just cruises through the rest of the run.

Left Lane: Sean Bellemeur No Time, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.641/259.96, Was #10
Right Lane: Brian Hough Runs 12.897/80.19, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.508/268.12, Was #5

Bellemeur's crew had problems getting the body to latch and had to shut off. Hough hits the throttle, strikes the tires and gives up on the run.

Left Lane: Dan Pomponio Runs 5.535/261.78, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.551/261.67, Was #6

Pomponio goes down the groove with another good pass but he stays in the sixth spot.

Left Lane: Chris Marshall Runs 10.211/108.50, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.477/266.64, Was #2
Right Lane: Annie Whiteley Runs 5.464/271.84, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.468/271.46, Was #1

Marshall has problems and is off the throttle early. Whiteley goes down the groove with the quickest pass of the day and she ends the session in the top spot.

Annie Whiteley's incremental times: 60ft-0.948 sec., 330ft-2.486, 660ft-3.651/214.04 mph, 1,000ft-4.635.
