JOLIET, Ill. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 22nd annual Route 66 NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Ray Drew Runs 5.532/264.70, Now #4; Best prior run: 7.836/119.54, Was #14

Weather conditions: air temperature 86 degrees, relative humidity 46 percent, barometer 29.14 inches, adjusted altitude 3,415 feet, track temperature 119 degrees.

Drew launched hard and kept it hooked up to go to the number four spot. Ray Drew's incremental times: 60ft-0.982 sec., 330ft-2.501, 660ft-3.679/210.34 mph, 1,000ft-4.683.

Left Lane: Andy Bohl Runs 7.362/145.70, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.775/259.36, Was #13
Right Lane: Chip Beverett Runs 6.043/251.44, Now #15; Best prior run: 9.470/122.20, Was #17

Bohl with tire shake right at the hit and pedaled it a couple times, but couldn't get it to hook up before he clicked it off.

Beverett is straight down the groove to get in the show.

Left Lane: Chris Foster Runs 5.617/259.91, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.658/258.27, Was #11
Right Lane: Bob McCosh Runs 5.882/253.28, Now #15; Best prior run: 8.404/111.34, Was #17

Foster kept it hooked up to get into the top half of the show. Chris Foster's incremental times: 60ft-0.969 sec., 330ft-2.518, 660ft-3.725/205.63 mph, 1,000ft-4.752.

McCosh is straight down the groove to get in the show.

Left Lane: Jay Payne Runs 5.600/265.38, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.639/265.12, Was #11
Right Lane: Chris Marshall Runs 6.065/263.67, Now #17; Best prior run: 8.069/0.00, Was #17

Payne kept it hooked up and in the groove to get into the top half of the show. Jay Payne's incremental times: 60ft-0.980 sec., 330ft-2.545, 660ft-3.742/207.82 mph, 1,000ft-4.751.

Marshall improves, but not enough to get in the show.

Left Lane: Dan Pomponio Runs 5.626/258.27, Now #12; Best prior run: 5.619/258.91, Was #11
Right Lane: Nick Januik Runs 5.596/261.12, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.824/252.61, Was #14

Pomponio with another good pass, but will not improve and gets bumped back a spot by Januik.

Januik drives through shake right at the hit and kept it hooked up to get into the top half of the show. Nick Januik's incremental times: 60ft-0.971 sec., 330ft-2.503, 660ft-3.708/205.29 mph, 1,000ft-4.733.

Left Lane: Kris Hool Runs 5.597/261.62, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.619/261.42, Was #11
Right Lane: Doug Gordon Runs 5.518/269.62, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.696/265.01, Was #13

Hool is straight down the groove to move up the ladder one spot. Kris Hool's incremental times: 60ft-0.972 sec., 330ft-2.515, 660ft-3.717/207.46 mph, 1,000ft-4.737.

Gordon launched hard and kept it hooked up to go to the number four spot. Doug Gordon's incremental times: 60ft-0.962 sec., 330ft-2.508, 660ft-3.688/211.06 mph, 1,000ft-4.683.

Left Lane: Terry Ruckman Runs 8.223/112.14, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.595/266.06, Was #8

Ruckman starts to shake and clicks it off around 330 feet.

Left Lane: Ulf Leanders Runs 10.874/78.10, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.516/263.67, Was #3
Right Lane: Matt Gill Runs 5.535/243.55, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.558/266.64, Was #6

Leanders with tire shake and he clicked it off.

Gill is straight down the groove and improves, but stays in the number six spot. Matt Gill's incremental times: 60ft-0.962 sec., 330ft-2.484, 660ft-3.661/210.41 mph, 1,000ft-4.661.

Left Lane: Annie Whiteley Runs 5.499/269.73, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.509/269.51, Was #2
Right Lane: Shane Westerfield Runs 14.576/72.58, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.485/268.87, Was #1

Whiteley launched hard and kept it hooked up to make the quickest pass of the session, but will stay in the number two spot. Annie Whiteley's incremental times: 60ft-0.969 sec., 330ft-2.503, 660ft-3.676/211.83 mph, 1,000ft-4.665.

Westerfield is up in smoke right at the hit and clicks it off.
