Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #2

DINWIDDIE, Va. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, Second annual Virginia NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.017/309.77, Now #4; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Jeff Diehl Runs 5.619/125.54, Now #14; No Prior Run

Weather conditions: air temperature 90 degrees, relative humidity 42 percent, barometer 29.56 inches, adjusted altitude 3,200 feet, track temperature 123 degrees.

Pedregon kept it hooked up to move up to the number four spot. Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.878 sec., 330ft-2.271, 660ft-3.232/266.74 mph.

Diehl is dropping cylinders right from the hit on his first pass of the weekend.

Left Lane: Blake Alexander Runs 4.003/315.27, Now #4; No Prior Run

Alexander gets the car ro fire, said it was a problem with an air leak in the safety shut off system. He is straight down the groove to go to the number four spot. Blake Alexander's incremental times: 60ft-0.884 sec., 330ft-2.293, 660ft-3.233/273.88 mph.

Left Lane: Jim Campbell Runs 4.085/309.34, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.298/139.16, Was #14
Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.005/320.28, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.015/152.68, Was #13

Campbell with a good looking pass until right in the lights when the car makes a move toward the centerline. The car crosses after the 1000-foot mark and before 1320 so that is his second violation so it will cost him 10 points.

Beckman is straight down the groove to move into the top half of the show. Jack Beckman's incremental times: 60ft-0.873 sec., 330ft-2.290, 660ft-3.243/272.72 mph.

Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 3.967/326.32, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.338/207.43, Was #13
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.029/310.05, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.745/171.86, Was #14

Hight launched hard and kept it hooked up to go to the number two spot. Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.871 sec., 330ft-2.279, 660ft-3.216/276.18 mph.

Wilkerson is straight down the groove to move into the top half of the show. After the finish line the chutes don't deploy, but he gets it stopped. Tim Wilkerson's incremental times: 60ft-0.887 sec., 330ft-2.309, 660ft-3.264/272.39 mph.

Left Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 3.922/323.58, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.135/252.10, Was #12
Right Lane: Jonnie Lindberg Runs 4.001/322.04, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.141/307.02, Was #14

Johnson Jr. had it hitting on all eight and hooked up to go to the number one spot. Tommy Johnson Jr.'s incremental times: 60ft-0.862 sec., 330ft-2.248, 660ft-3.170/280.60 mph.

Lindberg is straight down the groove to move into the top half of the show. Jonnie Lindberg's incremental times: 60ft-0.871 sec., 330ft-2.276, 660ft-3.236/270.16 mph.

Left Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 3.964/316.45, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.076/263.82, Was #12
Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.045/316.23, Now #12; Best prior run: 4.140/292.77, Was #14

Langdon had it hitting on all eight to go to the number three spot. Shawn Langdon's incremental times: 60ft-0.878 sec., 330ft-2.270, 660ft-3.203/275.62 mph.

Tasca with a good looking pass to move up the ladder a couple spots. Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.892 sec., 330ft-2.311, 660ft-3.275/272.01 mph.

Left Lane: John Force Runs 3.899/321.88, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.971/323.27, Was #5
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.001/320.51, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.074/313.44, Was #13

Force launched hard and kept it hooked up to go to the number one spot. He then crossed the centerline past the 1000 foot mark and before the 1320. This is his second violation this season and will cost him 10 points. John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.857 sec., 330ft-2.221, 660ft-3.143/280.31 mph. force sets the track E.T. record.

Hagan improves to move into the top half of the show. Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.880 sec., 330ft-2.293, 660ft-3.240/271.52 mph.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 3.927/318.92, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.927/321.50, Was #3
Right Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 4.006/314.68, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.978/316.38, Was #6

Capps matches his qualifying time from earlier today and he will stay in the number three spot. Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.860 sec., 330ft-2.238, 660ft-3.171/276.58 mph.

Another good pass for Todd, but he will not improve. J.R. Todd's incremental times: 60ft-0.877 sec., 330ft-2.285, 660ft-3.235/271.46 mph.
