DINWIDDIE, Va. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, Second annual Virginia NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run: Left Lane: Jonnie Lindberg Runs 4.141/307.02, Now #1 Right Lane: Blake Alexander No Time, Now #3 Weather conditions: air temperature 86 degrees, relative humidity 46 percent, barometer 29.58 inches, adjusted altitude 2,887 feet, track temperature 119 degrees. Lindberg is straight down the groove and then had bang right in the lights. Right Lane: Jim Campbell Runs 5.298/139.16, Now #2 Campbell is dropping cylinder right at the hit and it is pushing him out of the groove over by the wall before he clicked it off. Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon No Time, Now #6 Pedregon fired up the car did the burnout and then shut the car off at the starting line. Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.140/292.77, Now #2 Right Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 4.076/263.82, Now #1 Tasca with a clean pass, but slowed on the top end. Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.905 sec., 330ft-2.352, 660ft-3.346/263.20 mph. Langdon was on a good pass until the car started eating itself up with a big cloud of smoke. Shawn Langdon's incremental times: 60ft-0.882 sec., 330ft-2.282, 660ft-3.234/271.57 mph. The word from the top end is there is oil in Langdon's lane. Shawn Langdon was charged with an oildown, #3 for the season. That will cost 15 points. Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 5.015/152.68, Now #5 Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 3.927/321.50, Now #1 Beckman lost traction early and clicked it off. Capps launched hard and kept it hooked up to go to the number one spot. Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.863 sec., 330ft-2.235, 660ft-3.170/275.00 mph. Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.745/171.86, Now #6 Right Lane: Tommy Johnson Jr. Runs 4.135/252.10, Now #3 Wilkerson unveiled his new look new Ford. A great looking paint scheme celebrating Levi, Ray & Shoup. this is the 20th year they have been with Wilkerson. He starts to lose traction early and then has a hole or two out. It pushes the car toward the centerline and he clicks it off. Johnson Jr. starts drop the cylinders on the top end and clicks it off. He still goes to the number three spot. Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 3.978/316.38, Now #3 Right Lane: John Force Runs 3.971/323.27, Now #2 This was a good looking side-by-side drag race. Todd was straight down the groove with a good clean pass to go to the number three spot. J.R. Todd's incremental times: 60ft-0.870 sec., 330ft-2.260, 660ft-3.210/271.90 mph. Force kept it hooked up to go to the number two spot. John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.869 sec., 330ft-2.273, 660ft-3.216/275.56 mph. Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.074/313.44, Now #4 Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.338/207.43, Now #9 Hagan was straight down the groove to the number four spot. Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.889 sec., 330ft-2.307, 660ft-3.288/262.85 mph. Hight was on a good pass, until it started to lose traction and clicked it off.
